Are we ever going to see a DA revolver from NAA?

I pop in here intermittently hoping to see an announcement of a new production DA revolver from NAA.

Ideally something in size between an NAA Mini and a J-Frame ... maybe I'll see one before I retire ... ;)

Most likely we will never see a DA from NAA. There are numerous manufacturers that are making DA wheelguns, maybe not too many in .22 but I'm thinking the factory would have to be completely changed to do that. Right now, they hold a very unique corner of the market, and have a fairly large following, many of us have multiple quantities of different designs, and even matching sets. I fear having to reset the various manufacturing stations would actually reduce total sales.
Sandy or one of his representatives may chime in here, but they don't need to reinvent the wheel(gun). They have a fairly good following in their semi-automatic Guardians, but I'm guessing that the revolver is probably the meat and potatoes, if you will, of North American Arms Inc.

I saw the stats somewhere and Guardian production is a trickle compared to the mini revolver output. Couple orders of magnitude.

If it was easy then anyone could (and would) do it.
Could be a real break-out product.

This comes up from time to time, and the results are always the same. Most believe it to be a neat concept, but just not for NAA.  As stated, it is outside their niche market.

I think the size of the supposed prototype 32 mini that popped up would be about perfect.

I am also very interesting in a Small frame 5 shot DAO 22 mag pistol from NAA. Like a DAO sidewinder with a small triggerguard.

I'm not aware of ANY current-production DA revolver that is sized between an NAA Mini and a J-Frame ...  :o

i want one too but with the 22 magnum gaining in popularity in ccwrevolvers and with theadvent of 22 magnum short barrel ammo and the 32 acp declining in popularity in semi autos the chances are becoming seemingly more remote

taurus 380 is between a j frame and mini.
I've seen that and like the shortened cylinder, but was surprised at still how big it is:
http://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/taurus-m380-mini-revolver-review/
Taurus 380:
15.5oz, Length 5.95", Height 4.80", Width 1.35
vs
Ruger LCR:
13.50oz, Length 6.50", Height 4.50", Width 1.28

The Ruger is lighter, narrower, shorter in height and only .55" longer.

I think a DA revolver would be too bulky to be popular. I'd like to see a SA NAA mini-revolver in .32 H&R Mag. The design is proven and that caliber would allow for .32 S&W Longs to be used as well. I think the .32 ACP cartridge is too anemic to do well in the revolver market in the US. The .32 ACP may be gangbusters in Europe, but Americans want more powerful weapons - remember Humphrey Bogart telling Sidney Greenstreet ""Mine's bigger than yours." (.45 ACP vs 9mm?)

I wonder if an NAA Mini-revolver design beefed up to handle the .327 Federal Magnum would still have a smaller footprint than a .38 Special revolver like the S&W Chief's Specials? Maybe if you went to a 4 round cylinder...?

I would actually like a full sized nine shot revolver in .327, similar to the Taurus 608.

I remember seeing those years ago.

Actually I would like to see something just a little bit bigger, with a swingout cylinder, a full trigger guard, and DA of course.  Something sized between an NAA Mini and a J frame.

At some point the increased size takes it out of the Mini size category.
Then they are competing with Ruger, S&W, and Taurus.

I have a Taurus M380 and IMO its just a shortened j-frame sized gun.

I wish Taurus would make a .22 LR 9 shot on the M380 frame.

Charter Arms tried to make the "Dixie Derringer" basically a clone of the NAA .22 Mag mini and hardly sold any, Charter for some reason thought they could compete with NAA.
Charter is IMO the American version of Taurus, they make solid, affordable DA revolvers but they are no Ruger or S&W.

I've had one of the little Casull Arms since it was introduced.

It has to be the smallest DA .22 revolver made in the last 20 years. I really like it.
It would be a great addition to their line, but the trigger is such that only those with strong hands can shoot it (must be in the 15 to 20lb range!). It would likely need a bit of a work before it could go full production from someone like NAA.

I don't know if it could be a gun they could sub-contract parts out for, or if the patents that Mr. Casull has on this thing has run out yet.

Just wonder where to get parts for it, if I ever need it.

Closest thing that is well built to it is an original Ladysmith. That was the smallest swing-out cylinder hand ejector until the sidewinder came along.

I always thought the Casull was intriguing but heard the trigger was terrible.  You certainly confirm that.  That pull in a small gun is about unworkable really?

I wouldn't say unworkable...

It is fine if you're shooting at a humanoid-sized target at 9 feet or less.
I am certain that will a bit of finesse of the design it might be made more pleasant to shoot, but as it is, you certainly won't be shooting groups with it at any range- it's more of a "pattern" gun.  :P

I am impressed with the workmanship. Very, very well made.

I agree well made if Dick Casull can't pull off a workable trigger who can?

i was thinking that it would be better if the new taurus 9 oz revolver was in 32 acp rather that .38 special, which will be a handful in it even if you used wadcutters.

Heyjoe, you have just described what would have to be the best carry gun available, if they would just make it. And, as long as they are tooling up, shorten the frame and either make it a 6 shot, or, make it even smaller and go to a 5 hole cylinder. With some Hornady Critical Defense ammo, it would not be fun to shoot but it would be extremely effective, and less than an ounce heavier than a Black Widow. I suspect practice sessions with ball ammo would NOT run past 100 rounds, if that many!

I would bow out to Uncle lee for being first, but I would be directly behind him in line.

That is exactly what I want: a five shot .32 ACP with a cylinder as small and short as possible. I do not want the extra cylinder length and the extra recoil that would go with a .32 H&R Mag. Either single or double action (not double action only) with a two to three inch barrel. I really think single action would be best since the trigger and trigger guard could be more compact, or it could have a spur trigger. Hey, I think that Uncle lee's posts have gradually warped my thinking on this subject!

Based on what we have heard from NAA over the past few years I do not expect to ever see a double action NAA. If I understand correctly they are barely keeping up with demand for current models, so radically different models are not in the works. It would be nice if a larger company were to market double action .22 mini or a .32 ACP mini revolver. Not to compete directly with NAA, but to take advantage of a market that NAA has shown to exist.
