Cylinder seized
« on: 15 »
I have a Ported 22 mag/22 lr with the 1 1/8 barrel. When using the Winchester 22 super x 40 grain magnum ammo, the cylinder fails to turn and today it would not come out of the gun. When the gun cooled off, the cylinder finally was able to be removed. It does not happen all the time with this ammo, but enough to be worried. This does not occur with CCI Maxi Mag 30 grain magnum.

Welcome Freemason,
I can't help you with your problem but I can come up with a "smart" remark..

Carry two minis. shoot one while the other cools off.

I had that happen with a cold gun.  I had to send the gun back to NAA.  I think they cut the rebate for the rim a bit deeper.

If your gun only does it with that box of ammo, you could have a bad batch. Send Winchester an email with the lot number (found on the inside of one end flap.) and see what they say.  My guess is the ammo is a little hot, causing the shell to "slam" back into the recoil shield, which is locking your gun. Once it cools off, the brass shrinks a little, letting the cylinder turn.
Guns are a lot like parachutes:
