Here's what you've been waiting for! I have some exciting new photos of the Ranger 2. I chatted with Sandy in the NAA booth at the SHOT Show today in Las Vegas and the first thing he said after greeting me, was to ask Kenny to go grab the Ranger 2. :)

So, here you can see the latch mechanism that closes the break-top action. It's a bit different from the original design. It's a little hard to see in my photo, because I didn't have my nice camera with me, but the spring-loaded latch, which includes the rear site, moves rearward to release the break-top action, and it snaps back into place when you close it. It's certainly different, and Sandy says it secures the cylinder better than the original design, so that's an improvement over the first model.

They are still not quite ready to release the new Rangers, but Sandy said, with twinkle in his eye, to watch the upcoming Sandy's Soapbox! Christmas in February, maybe??? :)

how much? How soon? when in .32acp?

I don't know a price and I don't know an exact date, but I suggest you watch Sandy's Soapbox for new updates. .32ACP? Nope, I'm pretty sure you're out of luck on that, but things can always change, eh?

zburkett

I should have also asked, will the holster grip fit.  As for the .32, *** it Sandy, there is a reason the single action .32 was the most popular pocket pistol for decades.  I'd like a little bit more oomph when there are hogs rooting around in my back pasture.  Yes, 99% of the time a .22 is enough.  You carry a pocket pistol for those times you don't expect to need one.

MR_22

I don't see any reason why a standard NAA magnum-frame grip would not fit. I'm pretty sure the Ranger will take any magnum grips. That was the case with the original Rangers, so I think the Ranger 2 will be the same.

Dunno about the .32ACP mini. That's been talked about decades here on the board. Literally. I know NAA created a .32 prototype revolver once, but didn't pursue it, for whatever reason.

theysayimnotme

It was a weird Rube Goldberg design. Not the design most of us have in mind which is just an upsized mini.
A rear sight, what a novel idea. But does the hammer nose block it?

cfsharry

Thanks for the pics. Any talk of long rifle cylinder.

Uncle_Lee

Thanks for the pictures and getting me caught up..

I write wistfully about the .32 acp mini but it has been put aside for ever.
Sandy said that I shouldn't waste my life wishing for a pair of those minis. They aren't and won't.......

My, that is one fine looking little shooter. I would prefer a combination piece, however if it is 22 mag. only I will enjoy the piece very much.
And If later it is presented in 22LR, that will be an excuse to buy another.

theysayimnotme

I can't see it well enough but why is the top strap hinged? Why not just a solid piece?

That top strap retains the cylinder.  It is really just like a Schofield.  To pull the cylinder of a Schofield you take out the screws in the top plate it comes up or off and the cylinder can be pulled off.   Not as classy as the old Breaktop but is a old good design.  To me it's a cool design, my only fear is price, especially with a 22LR cylinder.

THANKS for the Pics, MR. 22!!!  Wife and I will each be picking one up, when they hit the Shelves!  Can't wait!

Cheers!

Ah, crap, how did I miss that??? LOL. Sorry. Too late now. I just saw your post and the show is over. I guess I was too busy talking to Sandy to get a good photo spread.

I'm also pretty sure when (if?) the Ranger 2 goes into full production, that there will be a .22LR cylinder, but I didn't ask about that specifically, sorry.

Hmm, that's a very good point. I didn't quite notice that when I was getting photos and chatting with Sandy (who's looking on while I take these photos). I'm quite sure than the fine photographer at NAA will soon provide some excellent shots of the new Ranger for all of us to see. In the meantime, listen to 45flint. He seems to know what he's talking about. :)

I should have taken video. Why didn't that cross my mind at the time? Dang it. :)

i also took a bunch of pics of them, editing them now

Bubba took some pictures of the left and right sides of the new breaktop and it doesn't show a release for changing out cylinders as the original has for it's cylinder release from frame of gun , whats up with that ?  ??? ??? ???

So thats what he's talking about with the screw design , thanks Unc . These screw change outs I really don't think is a real idea especially for the general public only the serious guys , not many of us for the bottom line . So each gun going to be dictated to in caliber and still don't see how top strap is removed if it can .  A little more thought should have been put forth before release , great idea for cartridge extraction but still lacking from the original design . Wish they introduced a L.R. cylinder for the original instead . As usual just an opinion . :-X

I assume from looking at it, you will take the cylinder out like below:  To me easier to change cylinders than a Sidewinder?  I like the design, should be very robust and totally period really.

Thanks Steve but there are two things I see as a drawback one the exceptence from the general public and two stainless steels ability to withstand numerous workings of not so removable pieces if thats what actually has to be preformed . To uspiece of cake BUT again the bottom line . Besides I wish they would stick to L.R. to begin with , this magnum thing is getting out of hand literally for the ladies . A L.R. cartridge is just fine for these guns and all else is overkill and wasteful . Oh but again just an opinion . ::) ::)  Hey thanks Steve for the you-tube thing . ;) ;)

I'm not very good at Photoshop, but I sure like the look of the slightly longer barrel on the Ranger II.  I also pushed the front sight further forward to maximize the available sight radius.

Here is MR_22's original photo on top with the photoshopped version below:

I finally had myself calmed down from Sandy's disappointing "No News in April" for the Ranger II, resigning myself that I would just have to wait another month for any news, and you have to churn up the excitement with interesting ideas.  Now I have to settle myself down again, get myself thinking about other things for another 10 days, until Sandy steps up onto the Soapbox again.  Nice tho . . . .  ;D

Thanks!  I've been gazing wistfully at the longer barreled Ranger II for a couple of weeks now.  To me it looks more balanced than the 1.5".  I can't imagine that they'd offer more than one barrel length on the Ranger II, but here's to hoping...

I thought about starting a new post with a preference poll, but didn't want to stir the pot if this wasn't a possibility.  Especially on a first post.   ;)

"Oh yes we can" for instance HeyJoe was quite a regular but now it seems he's limited to certain computer time there on the farm .  ;D ;D ;D  Right Joe.  ;)  L.I. buddy . ;)

My big question which is it going to be the longer barrel I HOPE . I've personally had enough short barreled and the longer barrels ,if for nothing else , gives us more bang for the buck .Really enough of the short stuff if I knew the Sidewinder would have had the longer barrels I would have never bought the first addition for sure . I'd like to see one of those bicycle break down three foot barreled contraptions on NAA's list . Screwed on butt stock perhaps something really out of the norm but real cool . Come on Sandy step out on the wild side , heck not that much retooling , simple mods to impress . Have a good day gentlemen and ladies off to work I go looking over the Atlantic Ocean from about twelve stories up .  ;) ;)

Howdy all,

I just started a poll to get an idea of the barrel length preference for the Ranger II.  I Photoshopped in a 2 1/2" barrel that I think really looks spiffy.

Thanks!
