Hi everyone.

I am one of the few NAA owners in Canada.  Laws prohibit ownership of pistols and revolvers with barrels less than 106mm (about 4") here.  This leaves few NAA models open to us.  But I picked up an Earl a couple years ago and LOVE it!  I once had a brief discussion with Jeff Quinn about how much each of us ilkes this gun.

Its a rare bird up here and always draws attention at the range.  Its a shame more are not being imported...

It took some getting used to, but I am amazed that this gun shoots as accurately as most of my other guns.  I can get 10 rounds in 2" at 10 yards easily enough now.  Reloading gets to be a PITA after firing for a while though, and that gets me to why I signed onto this forum.

I decided to sign up when I heard about the upcomming release of the Sidewinder.

I am posting in hopes that there will be some 106mm barreled Sidewinders released for the Canadian market.

   Fingers crossed...

   Thanks!

Welcome to the forum Babyseal. Nice looking revolver.

Welcome too, my Ruger Redhawk although referred to as a 4" model actually is a little longer to conform to the Canadian 106mm, I believe it's actually 4.2".

Thanks everyone

Redhawk4, I have a 4.2" GP100 that I shoot quite well with.  I imagine you must feel the same.

In general, I find revolvers are often more fun to shoot than semi autos because when you work really hard at it, you can be surprising fast.  Its also a satisfying combination when you have a powerful cartridge, an efficient reload, and fast, accurate rounds on target.

I can't wait to see that Sidewinder.  If it has an ejector rod, its really going to be an amazing little gun.  .22 wmr is no .44 mag but it has enough oomph to let you know the little guy means business.

You need a Hogleg, Babyseal.

   And welcome aboard!

Welcome Babyseal. I remember Jeff Quinn's review of the Earl. He said something about how he didn't understand why he liked it so much. I feel the same way. It's just a cool gun. What part of Canada are you from?

red14

Welcome Babyseal, I have the 3" Earl.  You can improve your accuracy with the oversize rubber grips

that NAA sells.  My Earl is much more accurate than the other NAA that I own.

Babyseal +1 on the GP100. Revolvers are fun, I was very much a semi-auto guy until I bought a revolver, now the jury's still out on the subject, but the truth may be revealed by the fact I now have more revolvers than semi-autos.

Welcome Canada.  Sorry to hear your choices are so limited. But glad NAA had something for you.  They really are more fun than I ever imagined.  And everyone I show the mini to immediately wants to know where to get one.

I still have many more auto's than wheel guns.  But I will say that revolvers have become my go-to guns of choice for protection.  Whether it's stupid simplicity, comfort of carry, or known reliability, I now almost exclusively use revolvers for carry and home quick access boxes.  Fortunately, my profession is not one that would put me in a drawn out firefight.

The high capacity enticements of my youth have steered more toward the functionality of the classic revolver.  Three of my last five purchases were wheels.  And one, the tried and true 1911.

Welcome to our asylum of NAA addicts. I didnt know handguns were legal across the border.  Learn something new every day. What part of Canada are you from?

Welcome to the forum. I used to travel to Canada regularly when I was working. Always felt very much at home and was treated like family.

Haha, I am seeking assylum in an NAA Assylum...

I am in a suburb of Vancouver BC.  Thats the west coast, aka, the WET coast.

We have our own set of firearms laws in Canada.  We can own pistols and rifles and all sort of things.  We can even own tiny little short barreled "long" guns without any extra paperwork.  (IE, I have a perfectly legal 7.5" barreled AR-15)  But you can't have a short barreled pistol, or anything in .32 caliber because apparently those guns are completely heinous.  We also can't have the FAL here for some reason, but M14s are fine, and popular.

The 2nd most annoying thing to me, after our lack of Second Ammendment style legislation, is that you can go bow hunting here.  You can hunt with a knife or a spear if you want to, or even a flintlock rifle.  But there is no handgun hunting allowed.  I can't give you a reason why.

Our handguns are only allowed in our homes and at the range.  No carrying them, no hunting with them, etc.

But I still have several because I just love them.  They are fun to shoot and are reliable tools for protecting my family.

I shoot just fine with my girly gripped Earl and find these grips more comfortable than the hogleg it came with.  I also love those pearlescent grips because I can't help but picture the gun tucked into my wife's garter belt!

The Sidewinder is going to be even more fun if it as good as it sounds.

I really hope that someone makes speed loaders for the Sidewinder.  It would really be fun to try and drive one of these little guns as hard as my GP 100.

I imagine it will be harder to find a more entertaining way to burn my fingers.

"Tucked into my wife's garter belt"

Careful son, They don't call me "creepy old guy" for nothing!

santa

Well Im not creepy.  I just need help with this new straight jacket they put on me and a NEW key to get me out of this white padded room. Typing with my nose is hard. Man, I thought I escaped but they caught me.  Meantime how legal is it IF DECLARED WHEN ENTERING CANADA to carry any kind of gun into Canada?

bflying

Great, now I'm picturing a gun in your wife's garter belt. ;)

westerly1965

Santa ~ I am only going to let you out of that room one more time.  If they catch you again your on your own.  Let me know when you get out of the jacket and I'll "drop" another key on my way past your room!

santa

HA HA!  I fooled them, the jacket looks like its still on but really its untied. So drop a key anytime.  I have a plastic surgeon ready to help, but who should I look like to hide my idendity? I know Ill dress up like that guy at Christmas who brings toys to everyone, and eats the cookies and BEER left out for him. And Wes, you can be a elf! You would get first pick of the NAA toys on the sleigh.

coinchop

Santa...

No handguns into Canada, no way, no how. Don't even take one to the border and declare it.

If you want to go to Alaska through Canada with a handgun, you can't. You have to ship the gun to Alaska, and pick it up when you get there.

I think you can take long guns into Canada, but I don't know much about that.../

I have thought I would like to ride to Alaska on a motorcycle which would include some camping out. With the bears along the way, no guns, no trip. Lots of mauling, not much news on it, unless someone dies.

Back when you could declare a handgun when you went into Canada, and then declare it at the border when you left Canada. Many people failed to declare them when they left, so Canada figured a lot of the guns stayed in Canada. End of taking guns into Canada.

Flying high in a sleigh would be your only hope.../

santa

I just found out(20 minutes ago) on the Canadian Government website dealing with long guns that certain long guns were permitted, such as bolt action rifles and most shotguns. They have to be declared and UNLOADED. A reason must be given for bringing them into Canada. Self defence is not listed as an acceptable reason, BUT protection against wild animals is while camping. So I guess if you brought your 12 gauge, declared it,paid the fee $25? its ok. Lets face it, much as I like my mini, there is no way it would suffice against a bear, whereas a large shotgun or rifle would. I was wondering though about handguns and you answered my question, thanks.  The sleigh is grounded for now because the reindeer have a few months off to fatten up and rest, and the elves contract says that they can take 4 months vacation.
