After a discussion over the winter/spring over ammo for minis and the ballistics of these rounds. I decided to search for test on the ammo as it relates to the barrel lengths I own ( 2" & 4") to see how much of a difference barrel lengths make.
I look for gun tests and ammo test to get my sampling trying to use real world guns as much as possible but I threw in the relevant BBTI tests too. It does seem that the length of the barrel usually does make a difference. The lone hold out was the weak performance of the 4" mini Master on NAAs site, which at times had less velocity that the BW. Four inch barreled guns average 250 fps better than 2". If you remove the Mini Master from the table the difference is even greater.

There is an error in the chart.  Under maxi Mag tnt 30 the LCR round should be in the 2" column.
Another note taking out the Mini Master ballistics, which I believe are posted incorrectly on the site, the 4' barrel avg for all becomes 1312 fps, very close to the short barrel avg. So, the most that can be said about the short barrel defensive rounds is they do expand more and the non expanding rounds penetrate further. No surprises here.
