The CCI CB ammunition is much lighter loaded. Not sure about the "Quiet" ammo.

What are the CB shorts? I saw some at Walmarts yesterday but they seemed a bit pricy....

For anyone wondering how the quiet and cb loads compare, if you mean velocity-wise, they will be much less than standard which will translate to less penetration to target. For a handgun such as the NAA short, I wouldn't use anything less than the 29 grain copper plated round nose loads and preferably hi-velocity.

I would not recommend the hollow point 22 shorts for a handgun since it means giving up a preciuos 2 grains from an already tiny bullet, and even if it was to expand in the target, expanding means slowing down and penetrating less.

Totally my thoughts also.

Of course a CCI Quite-22 with will not fit into a 22 short.  I was just wondering if anyone had tried a side by side comparison of the 710fps (published) 40 grain of the Quite-22 against the 1105fps (published) 27 grain short.

Very interesting information..... I just thought of them as plinkers,  but now I'll look at them a little different.

ZBurkett I can  supply 1/2 the info, here are the results of the CCI quiet out of the Sidewinders  1.5" barrel, if I find some short I'll run them through the chronograph, but I don't see them around often.

Thanks D.  It has become obvious that I am going to have to find a .22 short mini.  Of course I could just fire shorts out of my lr mini but why give up an excuse to get another mini?

Django2442

There you go Z stimulate the economy, always a good excuse to purchase another firearm  :D I'm a revolver guy, but my mini has me looking at a NAA Guardian, NAA imo are really nicely made and since purchasing my 1st NAA in April my wife has since purchased a Pug, so they do seem to be addictive.
Here's something on the S&W model 1 that goes along nicely with this thread.

Nice link on the S&W.  As for buying another mini, the one bad thing about Hillary loosing is it will be harder to find a excuse to buy another gun.

The LR minis are still preferable to shorts, mainly because of the heavier projectile and the ability to shoot high pressure loads like mini mags and stingers.  Although 22 short does better from a short barrel, it is relative. Don't write it off, but I wouldn't choose it over LR with proper ammo selection for the application. If a LR load was developed that used fast burning powder to optimize handgun performance it would win hands down. To my knowledge no such production ammo exists at this time but I have read about wildcat loadings like that.

The .22 short HV loads are high pressure loads. Mini Mags and Stingers create the same pressures as other H/V .22 lr loads.

Yes and because the velocity is the same as a 22 short, the heavier projectile gives it the advantage in terms of a self defense round. That was my whole point. I didn't want anyone to think that they'd be better off carrying a 22 short mini as opposed to LR. In a cheap 22 revolver (not an NAA of course) if it cant handle hi pressure loads then that's another story. In any case the 22 short should not be overlooked being what it is.

Also CCI stingers are hyper velocity and so are Velocitors, but if I'm not mistaken there is no benefit shooting those from a short barrel compared to a hi velocity round because the powder needs a long barrel to burn completely and reach "hyper" velocity. I may be wrong about that but I seem to remember seeing it somewhere.
