Hello everybody, my name is John and I'm new to the forum. My Black Widow has been my daily companion for the last 10 years. I would like to purchase a set of wood grips. I have large hands.  I was considering the NAA rosewood grips or a set of the CVang wood grips. Any comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Do you carry the BW with the wooden grips? I'm asking because I'm wondering if the wood wears or if they hold up well for pocket carry. I like the boot grip but if it's gonna wear I'll stick with the rubber grips.

I have a wood grip for my three BW's though I don't think these are available anymore.  I got them years ago from NAA.  The one with the rubber grip is a 17HMR.  I have larger hands too and these grips worked well for me.  I don't know about CVang's but I did order a couple and will check them out and let you know if you want me to.

Please let me know what you think of the CVang's when you receive them and I also like the NAA wood grips on your BW.

I think those the Boot Grips are the best looking that NAA has to offer. They look awesome on the BW! I think any wood grip would wear over years of carry whether it be in a pocket or holster .

Thanks for the warm welcome. Thanks for sharing the picture of your mini's. Your BW looks great with the wooden boot grips. It's going to be hard to decide which set of wood grips to go with. They all have a great look and I'm sure they perform well when shooting.

I have not carried it yet with the wood grips.  I just put them on about a month or so ago.  I usually carry my PUG.  But my plan is to get a holster from Rick some day and carry the BW.  I just like the look of the wood grip, but I haven't even shot it with them yet.  I will change that soon.

I use the magnum wood grip shaped like the BW grip but its a little bigger and works great for me

I use the folding holster grip when I'm wearing Jeans and the smooth oversized wood grip when I have a jacket on.  No wear problems even when I carry the wood grip in a Jean pocket.  My hands are so large that even the Boot grip is too small..

Thanks Folks for all the great pictures to wake up and look at.

You an always buy 2 or 3 different sets of grips and change them out on occasion. Gives your gun a whole new look and feel. :)

The CV grips are a bad joke, IMO.  The large "rosewood" are good but they are that laminate stuff, not real wood.

Bigbird48

Have you ever tried the cvang grips? There very comfortable in your hands, you have a much better grip and better control of the gun.Read what others here have said I don't think anyone shares your opinion.

Good advice Bigbird. I think that's exactly what I'll do. Have 2 or 3 sets of grips to change out with. As you stated, it will give the gun different looks and feel. I do like a change occasionally.

I use 2 sets. In the warmer weather I use the BW rubber grips. In the fall I switch it to a pair of Cherry grips I made, sort of like the bird grips but sized like the BWs.

The wood grips will hold up depending on where u carry and how much u sweat

I don't think I've noticed a picture with the BW wearing the boot grips. Those are fantastic looking! I guess I could try the Cvang grips but I just don't like the look of them. I love the grip that comes on the BW and that is my daily driver but I sure love the traditional look of that wood grip!

PaducahMichael

I bought Black Widow because  I like the way the original fat grips fit my hand. In fact, I think the grips are a big reason why I can shoot the BW better than the standard minis. Those engraved wood boot grips look great! I tried them and found that I had better control with the rubber grips. Just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

I also really like the feel (and look) of the stock over-sized rubber grip that comes on the BW.  But i just had to try a set of these engraved boot grips just to change things up sometime, I think they look great.  I haven't shot it with them yet, so I can't comment on that.

I like the old flat sided grips better than the newer rounded ones.  Tried the boot grips, like them but not quite big enough for a good grip, so went to Cvangs

ilex

I too like the old flat-sided rubber grips that came with the BW in the earlier years.  They don't print as much and fit my hand well.

OV-1D

I've found that if you gun oil the rubber grips and let them sit awhile then wipe off they tend to stick to the hand really well without slipping from sweat . I can't see why all the black rubber wouldn't react the same way . Oil seems to break the surface finish down some to allow them to stick better . Myself I use good old Rem oil for all the lubrication purposes , always wipe (fondle) your guns down even the stainless  .

It is not the rubber grips I worry about they are fine. But I like the cherry carved grips better, but in 85 and 90* weather and 70% humidity around here in the summer, I don't want to ruin the finish on the cherry ones I made. That is all. My boat shop has three big garage doors open 3 seasons, not air conditioned, barely heated......

I like that Canoeal an all weather worker , kodo's to you . About those grips how about a thick coat of marine epoxy paint ,oven dry them maybe .
