No endoscope pics but here's a Ruger New Vaquero in 45 colt.  This revolver just feels right in my hand.

Dinadan

Very nice Vaquero, Dlbind! My .357 Vaquero is a gun that I never get tired of fondling, not to mention practicing fast draw and dry firing. Just holstering my Vaquero and stepping out into the back yard makes me feel like I am stepping into a Zane Grey novel.

dlbind

Thanks Dinadan.  How does a Vaquero in .357 feel when shooting?  Mine with 45 Colt....well they just seem to belong together.  I've been tempted to try one in .357 just haven't yet.

Warthog

Dlbind,  I liked my Bisley Vaquero in 357 mag. I sold it to get another 45 Colt Bisley Vaquero for Cowboy Action Shooting. I have started returning to 357 mag SA revolvers, couple of Blackhawks, one old one new style, I prefer the older ones.

@Warthog-  With 45 Colt I think I've found my home for awhile. It does everything I want and probably more and for some reason it just feels right in my Vaquero.  I was glad I started reloading so I could afford to shoot it.

It seems many Cowboy Action Shooters gravitated to .357.  I always assumed that was to shoot .38 special to minimize recoil for fast accuracy and maybe a little money saving.  I've been curious if there was something more that I was missing.

Dlbind -  I missed your question about .357 out of my Vaquero. Honestly, I have never shot a .357 round out of mine. I shoot .38 Special. I only shoot the Vaquero for enjoyment: I do not use it for self defense. The magnums add expense, noise, and recoil, none of which I am too fond of. Considering that the Vaquero is a lot heavier than the SP101 I would expect the .357 to be not bad out of it.

Speaking of .38s out of .357s: a couple of months ago Warthog mentioned the possibility of the chambers eroding from shooting .38 Special out of a .357 cylinder. As I understand it, that will only present a problem if a person decides to shoot .357 after very large numbers of .38, and then only with extraction. Ruger's LCR manual does warn that shooting lots of .22 shorts can cut a ring into each chamber and, and make it hard to extract .22 LR. Strangely enough, Ruger did not mention the possibility of .38 Special creating a problem with .357 ammo.

Anyway, whoever winds up with my guns after I am a goner may have a problem extracting .357 but that will not be my problem!

I wasn't like that when I was Cowboy shooting. I went with 45 colt, and did it with Black Powder cartridges,  and shot shells. I dressed like a campesino rather than some cow poke. I usually won best dressed too. I enjoyed it until it became Gotta Win even need to find way around rules if it makes me win...that ended it for me. At first it was all about dressing period correct and fun. :'(

I think today is a Wednesday, I just don't have a new wheelgun to show.  Not yet anyway, maybe soon.

My first 5 shots with a True BW only had 3 hits on a paper plate at 7 yards.  But after just a little practice all 5 hit the plate not very far from center.  It looks like the BW may well replace the R2 that I have been using for about a year for EDC.  I really like the sights.

Fixed picture, just had dust on camera lens this time.

You do realize your cylinder release slide is backwards . But a fine looking piece .

I see that now, didn't notice before when taking the picture.  Thanks for letting me know, I think it is fixed now.

Armybrat

I like Ruger single actions.

Houdini

Please educate me on his cylinder release being backwards.  I am looking and his picture and comparing it the Black Widow on NAA's website and do not see the difference.

Bj

The picture at first had a gap between the cylinder release slide and the frame because it was turned in the wrong direction.  You cannot see that now because I replaced the picture with a new one.

Just got back from Arizona.  Went to Gunsite and took their week-long class "Defensive Lever Gun/ Single Action Revolver".  They've adapted Col. Cooper's Modern Technique of the Pistol to the single action revolver, and included the lever action rifle as part of the course of instruction.  And I learned and improved more in five days at Gunsite than in 45 years of shooting by myself and learning by reading. Amazing what real instruction and coaching can accomplish... even at age 70 8)
I shot the week with my old 6 1/2"Ruger .357 and a 16" Rossi 92. Emptied one 500rd container and started into the next. Each problem uncovered and worked-on seemed to produce a whole new level of problems. And thats what it's all about, because (though still quite imperfect) I'm shooting MUCH better at the end of the week than I did at the start.
If one has the interest and can come up with the time and the money, I heartily recommend going to Gunsite.
Be well all, Steve in Boise
PS the revolver is a first-year-of-the-new-model, transfer bar 357 that came to me decades ago well worn even then.  Last year I decided that enough was enough and put some money into it.  I had a local 'gunsmith' disassemble it, had it professionally Cerakoted by a shop that did a good job, and reassembled by the first guy. As has been said, there's two ways to hurt a Blackhawk: several ounces of C-4, or give it to an unqualified gunsmith.  I had to send it to Joe Perkins at Classic Single Action Revolvers in Arizona to get it put back to right, and he did an unbelievable job with the action, Super Blackhawk hammer, and replacing worn-out parts. It's a great gun, made better!
Also, when it was Cerakoted, the shop that did the work advised against doing the cylinder, and I find it interesting that's exactly what Ruger has done with their new Wrangler revolver; the frame and barrel 'koted, the cylinder blued.

So, it's Wednesday... and I bought a revolver! Or should I say rebought... :)

I think I mentioned here that back in January I sold a Taurus .41-Magnum revolver to fund my trip to Las Vegas for the SHOT Show, because I had lost my job. I was sad.

Well, today I found a replacement at Cabela's--and for $150 less than what I sold mine for. The barrel is an inch shorter, but it's good to "have it back" in the safe. Happy happy!

Uncle_Lee

Bert, you did a good job there.

22, is that like marrying the same woman right after the divorce??

Way to go Boise. That sounds like it was one he!! of a class to attend.  :D Some do not give the SA's enough credit for what they can do in a defensive situation.

Superb Mr. 22; I love it with the somewhat shorter barrel too.  ;)

Nice photos, Ds10speed! And nice revolvers! I like the leather backgrounds, too. Leather, of various textures, is one of my favorite backgrounds when I am photographing firearms.

smokeless joe

Yeah nice family photo there Ds. Not sure how I missed this post but glad I finally ran across it. I really have to participate more on Wednesday's.

This fine Wheelgun Wednesday, I bought this 16-inch wheelgun from Kentucky Gun Company. Apparently I got the last one they had (I tried to buy two, one for my daughter, and it wouldn't let me). I love buntlines and the price was right.  ;D ;D ;D

It's hard to beat at a hundred and sixty bucks for a buntline revolver. I've never owned a Heritage, but I've heard a lot of good things on them. Looking forward to getting this one.

Mr 22 be sure and update us after a range session

Dinadan

MR_22, that looks cool. Might be a little awkward if you carry inside the waistband; but you might get some interesting offers ...
