Got my Folding Grip!

Ok, ok, so I know this is nothing special or unique to anyone here, but I'm pretty excited. I got my folding grips and got them installed on my mini magnum. I think this gun is the ideal for carry with the barrel length giving the same as .22LR ballistics from a long barrel and now the folding grip allowing me to get the gun out of my pocket and behind my hip. Now I can put my phone in my right pocket away from my screen-eating keys in my left pocket. I forget it's there, and the clip hooks my belt very securely so I don't worry it will fall out. Although I might have to ask any potential bad guys to be patient while I get it out...  ::)  ???

I had one of these for a brief time 20 years ago, on a .22LR mini, but I foolishly let it get away.

Like I said, nothing special, but it is to me. Like the rifleman's creed, there are many like it, but this one is mine!

Very nice! When I was choosing grips it was between that one or the laser grip, I ended up going with the laser but I still want one with a folding grip

I was just thinking of those yesterday. I would like to be able to hold one first to see how it feels before I spend that much money.
It does look a bit better than the older larger style but I still can't fathom how it fits the hand when open.

Bj

If my lr order with that grip ever actually comes in, I will get to try it.

OK, so forget about the fact that this is a gimmicky folding grip for a moment and pretend it is just a grip. Non-folding. It is PERFECT. When shooting a magnum mini with factory grips, the gun rotates 90 degrees and points straight up. Efforts to stop this result in bloody sore spots on the top of my right thumb knuckle. This grip stops that and tames this miniature beast into a practical shooter. It is worth the money.

Forgot to mention, I have large, relatively strong hands (I'm 6' 2") but I think these would be perfectly sized for anyone's hands.

theysayimnotme

It looks awkward where your middle finger is. It would seem better if it were cut straight along the top of the clip. Could that part be cut off?

Bj

That grip isn't much to look at, but if it works well and is practical I will be happy with it.

lign

It's not awkward at all. Fits perfect and feels perfect in the hand. If you could hold it, you wouldn't want to cut anything off.
In fact, I would say that feel in the hand is the best part about this trip. It does make it bulkier if you want to pocket carry, which I occasionally do. I wish it could be removed more easily to switch back and forth.  Guess I just need to get a spare mini magnum for that! ;D

I like the folding grip. I have one on my 1 1/8 22 lr. Shots great and carrys very well in pocket. The best grip for shooting. I think you made a great choice.

Bj

How would you say it works in the pocket using the clip in the pocket?

Ruger

I found the fold-out grip OK but just did not trust it stability-wise once it was deployed.  And the fact it didn't deploy as easily as my boot grips and pocket holster, I stuck with the Boot grips.

I have one and like it very much.  When folded and stuck in the pocket it looks much like a big knife clipped to you pocket.  It does take an extra step to deploy from the folded to ready to use, but that is pretty quick and easy.  When unfolded it locks open and don't close without pushing in the spring loaded latches.  The grip fits into my hand very well and also in my wife's hand.  It holds and shoots then much like a larger pistol.  I have mine on a Wasp.  I did not really like shooting it with the small grip that came on it and am really liking the folder.  I have filed down the clip  a little so it is not so hard to clip into or out of my pocket.  Works real nice.  I just removed a little from the little knob under the clip and rounded it some.  Did it with an emery board stolen from my wife.
A gun is like a parachute; if you need it and don't have it, you probably won't need it again.

Never installed one (have for the collection) but just looking at them doesn't seem too sturdy a platform .

It works just fine in the pocket but it is more bulky. I push it all the way down and sont use the clip for that. If pocket is your primary carry method, I probably wouldn't use it. However, you can remove the clip entirely and very easily. I know this grip is not real popular, but I really like it.

I appreciate the time you took and the pics you provided. You almost act like it's no big deal and almost apologetic for posting - but it is a big deal. I've often wondered if the grips were something I should try or not. It's butt ugly to me but if it works and makes shooting one easier and allows you to actually use it to potentially save your life then that's something we need to hear about!
Thanks for sharing with me (us)!

I think they look like they would feel good in the hand and look pretty good off the gun. Now if they could somehow get the gun to fully/mostly seat in the grip when folded I would find it fabulous. As it is with the grip folded and the gun setting on the outside I just cannot stomach it. Fix that and I think it would be a winner.

Glad you found something you like and can use though. Good work.

There was a discussion about someone saying they didn't like the new design. That made me look it up & I think it is much better than the older one that was much longer. That's when I decided to check the monthly sales to see if they would ever put it on sale. That's when we discovered they aren't having the monthly specials anymore. Now I will have to see if any show up on Fleabay for a lower price.

Yes, I vaguely recall that the one I had 20 years ago on my LR mini was more like what Rogue was wishing for. I just don't remember it well enough to compare accurately.

I like the folding grip.  If you need to tighten it (loose when open) make a little gasket out of black electrical tape.  Works well

I love my folding grips on my BW.  I have an assortment of all the popular grips--Vang, etc, but the folders are the ones that keep ending up back on the gun.  They are homely and awkward as far as grips go, but they work great and give a good purchase when shooting.  I wear mine IWB on my right rear (strong side) hip, and the gun is invisible.  Perfect for driving and active wear use.  When I want "pretty" or shooting with friends for the afternoon I'll drag out other grips, but the folders are always on the gun ready to head out the door.  I also noticed that placed upside-down in the center console, it appears to be a phone or something else in the truck.  Wish they would make one scaled down for the shorty.  The LR frame model is a bit too wide and clunky on the short.

OV-1D

Thanks Swolf I had no idea they had two sizes but is there only one size besides the magnum in the original design , anyone know ?

Your comments are encouraging because I am waiting on a LR order with that grip.

LHB

OV, I have an original folder grip for LR, so they made two sizes.

Makes you wonder what they did with the rest of the gun . . .
