Idea for Ranger 3?

I know it's nuts to propose a new pistol when the Ranger 2 is not even released yet but here goes.  The Ranger 3, a less expensive Break Top.  I love the way the cylinder of my Ranger 1 and the 2, has an ejector the raises the cartridges for easy removal.  But in reality the short throw height of the ejector is not as effective as a Schofield or my WW2 Webley.  This has to be one of the expensive parts of the design.

Why not a Break-Top that just breaks for the loading of a regular cylinder?  In reality multiple cylinders would be far more effective than a speed loader.  I would assume the cost of the Ranger 3 would be much reduced and still would be a effective cool pistol.

Interesting. That's thinking outside of the box. I wonder if the cost of research and development would eat up any savings involved in implementing the design.

Agree, interesting idea.

An interesting concept. That's how things come to life. An idea is born and then it grows or dies. You never know.

The good folks at NAA might really like your idea, as it would encourage customers to purchase a number of cylinders for a single revolver.  The potential fly in the ointment would be if fitting each cylinder is required.

If they decided to go this route, perhaps they could offer a spent-shell unloading tool: Essentially a piece of plastic with five tapered pegs long enough to push shell casings completely out of the cylinder.

The really interesting part of your idea is having the ability to switch between WMR, LR, Short, Shotshells, etc. in a matter of seconds.  You'd just need some kind of plastic/rubber cap to go over each cylinder to prevent the loaded shells from falling out.

I've never had any top break revolver that really did a good job of ejecting the cartridges including the Webley. The nine shot .22 was the worst. I've also had two .32s. Empty cases sometimes get trapped under the ejector if you don't do it right. I don't have a Ranger but I might guess the short stroke may actually prevent that.
I must confess I am hard put to understand the need for a rapid reload. For less money you can buy TWO pistols & have an instant "reload".

I think the word "need" when posed as a question is more offensive to a gun enthusiast than most commonly recognized curse words.   ;)

Do I "need" it?  Nope.  Is it practical to think I'm going to carry around a handful of extra cylinders?  Nope.  Would I buy one anyway just because I want one?  Most definitely.

They would need to include some way to keep the cartridges in the cylinder so they don't fall out while carrying and installing additional cylinders.

Well, IDK, maybe, would have to wait for some videos to say how it worked and let me see it.  No place near me would carry one so I couldn't check it out myself. :(

That would be pretty simple, actually.  All they'd need to make is a plastic or rubber cap with a tab on it that could be popped off with a thumb - Iike a medicine bottle (non-childproof variety).

Actually, I didn't realize the ranger lifted the empties!  That seems like a lot of extra complication when minis are supposed to be 'simple' (I know they are not simple, but single actions are perceived as less complicated than double actions), easy to use small guns.  I think a lift off cylinder would would be tremendously easier to produce and just as well received.  And if they are cheaper, put me down for one!  Can't budge the wife on the price of the current ranger!  It would be fantastic just to have the breaktop to ease cylinder removal!  You should have mentioned this to Sandy before he went through all this work!

If the cylinders were carried bullet down I bet the rounds would stay in place especially with 22 mag shells.
Now if you turn them over then all bets off :)

I like the idea of a lifter so they fall out of the cylinder easier (break the stiction between the cylinder and fired case).

Heck we may end up with the best of both worlds.

How about using packing tape?  Imagine this UTube with a Break-Top 3? Lol

Somehow it just does not seem very practical to me to have extra cylinders for a fast reload.  If I wanted to take 50 extra .22s on a long hike, would I want 10 extra cylinders.  Maybe 1 extra cylinder at most.  If the cylinder needs to be setup for a specific firearm, care would be needed to keep track of which is which.

You know I've had a thought, I'd like to see an naa revolver with the old school brass knuckle duster grip. I'd definitely pick one up!
