New to me Guardian 38

A bit over a year ago, I went to a local gun shop, intending to buy a used Guardian 380. After handling it for a while, I decided it wasn't for me. I ended up buying a new Black Widow instead. That was a wise decision, as I love my BW. But the idea of a Guardian began to grow in me. First of all, it is a true DA, with the trigger pulling the hammer all the way back and releasing it every time, just like my Taurus 85. I like this, as for some reason I hate carrying something half cocked (my TCP) or with a striker (PT111 g2) fully cocked. Paranoia, I guess.
Secondly, I like metal firearms. Nothing wrong with plastic pistols; I have a bunch of them, but my favorite ones are made out of metal, as God and Colt intended!
Finally, the weight of the Guardian really bothered me at first, but then I realized that, when both are loaded, the Guardian actually weighs less than my .38 revolver, and I pocket carry that on a regular basis.
So today I saw another Guardian 380, and I boght it, ignoring the Mini Mag and the  Sheriff That were sitting near by. I think I am going to like it!
Finally, the Guardian is different and cool. Unlike most "mouse guns", the Guardian feels like it will last for generations. All of my NNA's get regular use, but I expect that my grandchildren will still be using them long after I am gone. I doubt that the same will be true of my "plastic pistols"!

I've had one for quite a while now. I like it for all the reasons you state. A lot of people have an issue with the weight, but I pocket carry it all the time and it's fine in jeans that hold it to your leg, it doesn't work with baggier dress pants, but then I've found any gun to be irritating, if it moves around and to and fro in your pocket when you walk - time to use a holster.

I've had small polymer pistols, but none have given me that solid dependable feeling the Guardian gives and I don't get the pleasure of ownership I do from that stainless steel and wood grips look of the Guardian. Many will argue about what isn't good about the Guardian and the recoil because it's a blow back design, but if it fits your hand, as it does for me then I find the perceived recoil to be less than it is in the small polymer pistols I've fired.

I too really like the true double action, I just don't like things being cocked or half cocked - while it may induce paranoia for some, to me it just seems mechanically wrong too. I like a proper hammer on any gun, I think it's just better when I can see what's going on. I have a Sig 290RS 9mm which is similar to the Guardian in terms of the double action, I like it, while everyone else seems to complain about the trigger, but it's no different from a DA revolver trigger, I don't think enough have practiced these days with a long trigger pull, and there's virtually no chance that it can go off, uninvited.

Congrats on your new purchase, if you spend some time at the range you will be surprised how accurate you become and you will also find the Guardian to be flawless in it's reliability. The trigger pull also improves with use, IME.

While I share your love of metal firearms, I have little doubt your grandkids will still be shooting your plastic ones.  They last a long time too, and they are lighter to carry.

Your grandkids will shoot what you have now and will for a long long time.

Do Grandkids even know what metal is in the main? :)

There's quite a movement for retro things currently, but I think we like metal and wood on guns because that's what our movie heroes shot, now the heroes have laptops, tablets and other electronics and when they shoot guns they are often the polymer ones, so there will likely be a change in tastes heading forward as it seems to me what we deire and dream of in our teens seems to set our tastes for life.

However what kid wouldn't want to own and treasure guns that had belonged to their Grandpa, that he spent the time with them teaching them to shoot?

I hate to admit it, but I think I am drawn to NNA firearms in part just because of how they look and feel. I really do like my plastic firearms. They are functional and light, but they are lacking in the aesthetic  qualities that I like. And I am not convinced about the longevity of the plastic firearms. I guess we will know in 50 years or so!

I had the same draw and it came down to the Guardian or the Seecamp. Couldn't find a Guardian at the time so I bought a Seecamp 32 (wanted a .32 for the recoil reduction). I love that little thing but I find I carry the BW more often. Not sure why. Both are tiny!
Had the Bodyguard 380 and didn't like it. Bought a Kahr CW380 which I still have but the slide is so hard to rack it just ticks me off! 2 other mini's also but the BW is my favorite so far. We'll see when the Ranger gets here!

Even with the new Guardian, I am carrying my BW (and not the Guardian) today. It is a very useful and usable firearm. With the LR and 22WMR cylinders you can use it in almost any situation. Except in Bear season! Then I carry something a bit bigger in addition to the BW.
