Bud's does not have Rangers

I just got a call from Bud's Guns. They made a mistake on their website. They did not have the Ranger 2's they were advertising. They were selling Sidewinders and placed the wrong description on the website. I am disappointed to say the least.

It's that SKU # thing again. Can't believe that hasn't been fixed - it's been years!

I have never purchased anything from Bud's.  I recognize that they are a successful business, so therefore are doing something right.  But I understand that at times when firearms are backordered, when a small lot finally comes in that is smaller than the accumulated backorders, they have notified people with the backorders and asked if they wanted to participate in an auction style free for all and bid additional funds on the units available, or wait for the next lot to be received.  I've only heard one guy comment on this before so I'm not sure of the circumstances.

I've had mostly good luck with Bud's. Problem is, sometimes they will list something and not actually have it in stock, but have a third party drop ship it to you. You still get it, no problem, but my dealer had a hard time finding my gun in his pile of packages because it didn't come from Bud's, like we were expecting.

But I've still been pleased enough with them to order again. They always seem to have pretty good prices and you don't have to add shipping to the price listed, which is nice.

I've had a good experience in my few dealings with Buds, but like so many internet based companies you do have to be careful when ordering that the items are in stock or readily available and will be shipped promptly if they come from a 3rd party vendor. I'm not entirely surprised they didn't have Ranger II's after all there were several things that didn't quite add up, including the description, that sounded like the Ranger I, the sales price and the fact it seemed too early for them to be available. I feel sorry for those who were misled and are now disappointed I hope they will be able to get one soon by other means.

While I am disappointed with this situation I will continue to do business with Bud's. I've bought about 20 guns from them with no problems. The person on the  phone told me that they could put the money back in my account or put it toward another gun. He also said that if the gun I choose cost a little more they would discount it to the amount I have sent. I've been looking at the Charter Arms Pathfinder Lite in 22 magnum for a while. We'll see if they follow through with the promise of a discounted price.

I'm sure it was a genuine error made by an employee lacking product knowledge, combined with really poor timing given the pending release of the Ranger II. It seemed like someone got the description for the Ranger I from somewhere and mixed that into  the Sidewinder they were trying to list. The whole timing of the error is what made it so unfortunate with the level of expectation and anticipation for the Ranger II.

Putting that aside, everyone makes mistakes and I generally form my opinion of a company from how they deal with the aftermath of the mistake or problem rather than by the fact it occurred in the first place. If they will give you a discount or something to make up in some way, that's probably about all they can do, however I'd ask them if they are going to get Rangers in, and if so, can you get a preferential position on the waiting list, it seems they owe you that at least.

I just got off the phone with Bud's. They discounted the Charter Arms by $10 and gave me a $20 gift card. The listed cash price was $335. I purchased the insurance for $4 so I got the Pathfinder for $309. I'm disappointed about the mix up but like I said, I've been looking at the Charter Arms for a while. I'm happy with Bud's resolution of the problem. The Ranger 2 was put on my wishlist at Bud's.

Do they have them coming in so you can leave one on order and get it as soon as they get one in?

I assume Bud's is high on the list to get some of the other half of the Ranger II's.

I'm sure they have some coming in, but they wouldn't commit. Had to cancel order for a refund or put it towards another firearm. They are not taking names for pre-orders. Grab A Gun is taking notifications and Lipsey's has them listed to contact your local gun store for purchase.
