New member here, I have enjoyed reading all the posts so much I had to join. Right now I only have one mini, but I've always loved them. Nothing beats bringing one out on range day and taking bets against my friends shooting cans. Got a few free lunches that way, haha. I just ordered a holster from desert gun leather (found them here) today and I can't wait to get it. A little bit about me, I have had an FFL with SOT type 7 for about the last 10 years. I build and mod my own guns from trigger jobs to full auto ( legally of course ). So to say I'm a gun nut is putting it mildly.
The only question I have is, does anyone carry their spare cylinder instead of just extra rounds? I'm sure it's been discussed, but I couldn't find anything about it. Seems to me if you were concerned with a reload, just dropping the empty one and popping in another would be the fastest way to do it. I keep mine with a rubber cap on it so the rounds stay put. Just wanted to introduce myself and ask what you guys think about a spare cylinder for carry.

seak

In the wood I carry both cylinders

Warthog

Nope, I carry the cylinder in the revolver and some reloads.  I try to keep it light weight, so that is how I go.

I don't get a lot of woods walking done, can't really find any I would be allowed to walk in, so I carry for self protection.

My NAA is almost always a back-up to something larger--so I don't even carry a reload for the mini (cylinder or otherwise).
But in those rare instances when I can't carry a larger primary gun, I simply carry a New York Reload--a second mini!   ;D
So, making guns illegal will take them off the street?
Perfect!  We should probably make heroine and meth illegal, too!

WELCOME PAP!  Keep posting and find your place around the fire.  Sounds like you have lots to share.  Great to have you!

First, WELCOME!

I do not carry spare ammo for my mini, as it is my "get the heck out of here" gun. My desire is it will get me back to the truck, and once there, the "conversation" will take a whole new tone.

If you are satisfied with your holster from Dessert Gun Leather, and I am confident you will be, Rick can make you a pouch to carry as many spare cylinders as you desire.

yes i do have a pocket holster for the 22 mini magnum convertible that has a pouch built in for the second cylinder.
It's too bad that our friends cant be here with us today

It's just as easy to carry a second mini. Of course that would mean that you'd have to buy another mini. Most of the guys on this forum own several.

welcome! just got back from the range; had a great time and ran about 50 rounds of CCI cphp shorts (also took my S&W 317)

nope, don't carry an extra cylinder... i plink with .22s (LR or shorts, but i've also seen Longs for sale!), then carry with .22 WMR

Thanks for the warm welcome from you all. I know for most the mini is a "back up/get off me" gun, I feel the same way. There are times, and places when the mini is all I can bring because of circumstances out of my control. In those instances I like to be as prepared as I can. So my thought process was for those times. I just ordered a black widow and sidewinder to round out the collection also. I know there will be more to come later

Welcome! I currently don't carry a spare cylinder just extra rounds and extra firearms, but I have made inquiries into getting a pocket holster that would carry an extra cylinder so I may in the future.

Welcome to the Forum.

Extra cylinder carry is pretty popular.

There is a Pocket Holster available for that.... and I am working on a belt slide version (possibly yours!) lol!!

Thanks for looking and again,  Welcome!!

This thread gives me an opportunity to ask a stupid question.

So here goes: Can additional cylinders be ordered ? Say that of the same caliber ?

Probably not, but I've been told it can't hurt to ask. :)

Warthog

I don't see why they wouldn't make a cylinder of the same caliber for you.  Call them and ask, all they can say is no.  I bet though they will tell you they will but you will need to send them the gun so it will be timed right.

I would think they would make you as many cylinders as you like.  It only takes cash!!!

reply to USMC dad,
yah, they'll make more cyls for you, no probs, but they want you to ship the revolver back to the factory to check the timing of the new cyl.

I learned from someone here that a Blood Glucose test strip containter (a bit smaller than a film container) is just ther right size for a spare cylinder, AND has a pretty nice air tight snap lid, so that is what I carry for spare cylinder use.  Dont need a fancy stamped leather thingy with bulky snap except for the coolness factor.

grayelky

Yes, they will make spare cylinders, of the caliber of your choice, $50.00 each. Yes, you will have to send in the gun.

Well i like to cary a spare cylinder. My thoghts are just a little bit diff.  I would cary my mini with mag. Then i would find my self in a spot to shoot and my lr cylinder  would be at home. With the spare cylinder  i was able to shot lr. Then be able to load back the mag for the ride home.

I think that Grayelky actually meant CARTRIDGE of your choice, meaning .22LR or .22WMR, but it is critical to keep in mind that the CALIBER of both of those is identical.  Your .380 would make a plug in the .22 diameter barrel that would be hard to remove!

First yell your Marine Semper Fi and thanks for their service.2nd a Big Welcome to youI personally don't carry extra rounds but I know many do. Rick makes an awesome pocket holster with a pouch for a spare cylinder or one for a 22 speed loader.
