Speed Strip or SpeedLoader?

Hi y'all,

Wanted to say hello since this is one of my first posts. I currently do not own any NAA mini revolvers and my first will be the Ranger II if it ships soon enough. If not I will pick up the sidewinder and PUG by Christmas...  :o

I had a quick question on carrying. I normally carry a SIG P238 or a Ruger LCR. I know a lot of people carry NAA revolvers as a backup with no extra ammo, but I plan on carrying this gun when I only have shorts on. So, occasionally this will be the only gun I carry.

Does anyone here have any input on whether speedstrips or speedloaders are better? Pros and Cons? And some great brands for 22mag speedloaders?

Much Appreciated,

seaotter

Strips are great for carrying ammunition, but I don't think that it would be better to get one of the pocket holsters that have a pocket on them to hold extra rounds. I got the one from the NAA website, and I can fit 7 extra rounds into it. That way you will always have your reloads right there and handy.

yup, i favor the strips myself and as for a reload i just pull out another pug, hey, just my two.  kevin

Strips but only because they are so easy to carry. That is usually the most important factor simply so that you actually carry them hence have them if ever needed.

Welcome to the forum. I carry two Black Widows. One in pocket (22 mag), one on my belt cross draw (22 lr) and a small Altoid metal box with 20 rounds of lr with padding in the lid to prevent rattles. All day, every day year round. Florida is warm. My BW lr is easier to load, that's why the lr reloads.

I carry a 10 round speed strip. It's very easy to carry.

IMHO, reloading a mini in a gunfight is a ridicules thought; I have always considered a Mini as a Belly Gun.  A quick shot to a belly if need be.  Better to stick with your P238 for reloading, if a gun fight is what you have in mind.

Howdy,
I agree with Ruger.
All firearms have compromises to be accepted. The minis are guns I carry due to their magic ability to disappear
in almost any mode or style of dress.  It's the gun you always always always have with you, and that's better than the bigger
heavier more powerful gun that's home in the bedside nightstand when you need it NOW but didn't carry it because you can't conceal it when wearing stylish jeans and a tshirt.
I don't consider nor expect my 1 5/8" mini 22mag to be a fight-stopper.  To paraphrase Cooper, it would be a mistake to consider myself well-armed with only it. But it's what I always have with me, always. And I don't carry a reload for it right now. I may in the future,  but if I'm in a situation where five more 22mags and the slow careful reload are gonna make the difference, then I shoulda been better armed.
BTW, when I'm afoot in the Idaho mountain country I carry a 6 1/2" Blackhawk with 180gr. Bear Loads.

For my Charter, I use H&K speed loaders at the range, and keep 2 with the gun. For the BW I don't yet have one I really like, and only carry one in the colder months, during the rest of the year it is just a reload in an ammo pouch. Saw one in a post today I may order, after I get back to work...

When I am in the mountains I carry a S&W 44 Special with Buffalo Bore loads (it is an 18 oz gun so carries well).
When I am running the dogs in the foothills I carry a Glock 19 with two extra mags.
This is to run off coyotes and wolves if needed.  May not hit them but slinging lead until they get out of dodge.
The SW is typically in my pocket.

I carry reloads mainly because I like to shoot it and don't want to come home with an empty gun.
Tin cans, dirt clods, sticks, what ever can be a target especially in the winter months as not too many people are out hiking on a 20 degree day with a 20 mph wind. :)
