I wonder why the new Ranger II's have the BTN in the serial number instead of BTII??
This is in the ones going out to the dealers.

Good question. How were they numbered on the first Ranger?

BT then the numbers.

What started me wondering is that the Early Birds are marked EBIIXXXXXXX.     II not N

Maybe BTN(ew) ... ?   :P
So, making guns illegal will take them off the street?
Perfect!  We should probably make heroine and meth illegal, too!

To distinguish them from the originals, likely as already stated N for new

My guess is the "I" is too close to "1", and may create a greater chance for confusion in the future. I know in VIN numbers, the letters "O", "I" and "Q" are not used for that reason.
Guns are a lot like parachutes:

That could be, when I picked up my EB Ranger II at my LGS the guy writing it up had to ask another guy if it was II or 11.

Hah!  Same thing happened to me, ds!  He had to correct it on the forms.  NAA probably won't make that mistake again.   :D
