I'm considering a cap and ball companion and I'm not finding much info on YouTube or reviews. The few I have found show some misfired or rotation issues with no commentary as to what caused the problems. I know you are supposed to use Rem no 11 primers only.   Perhaps this is what caused the problems.  Can anyone who has owned one for awhile please post a review on these ?  I'm interest in the two magnum versions. The Earl and the Magnum Companion.  Thanks

First welcome.   Do you shoot C&B?  If so you know about dirt.  Use the search up top for Companion, Cap and Ball, Black powder ,loading tools ect. Lots of good info from guys long gone.

Companion is fun. But a lot of work. My "little black pain in the ass".

Rotation problems can be cap related.  But most of the time it is just CRUD related. Full size C&B  gum up fast. Mini being small even more so.Wipe the cylinder pin each loading. After 2 loadings it becomes hard to seat the ball. I keep a damp .22 mop on the bench and fast swab each chamber each time. Lube the pin with a black powder lube, not oil. Heat+sulpher+oil = ASPHALT. You are paving the parts.

Just remember that Companion or any Mini is what it is. Short range, slow to load, and with out practice hard to hit anything.

Oh. Did I say the front sight is worthless ?   Pics of the mod to follow.

Don't let this stop you. It will be fun.  We will help.

Do you own a cap and ball revolver now?  You have to love the process and after one firing my full size, it's clean them up and fire again.  Lots of Black powder cleaner is your friend.  I love the smell, the process, the trip back in time.  But you'll quickly relalize why the smokeless cartridge was developed.

   the trip back in time.

I was born 100 years too late. --- Ordered a Colt '51. Out of the box it fit better than ANY of the many pistols I have shot. Sam Colt got it right in 1851!!

BUT-- let us not drift too far.  We must help Snowball get hooked !

I owned C&B many years ago.  I'm familiar with them.  I just like the fact that these are the only American made C&B revolvers on the market.  I'd probably shoot them very little.  Want one for the collection. They seem really slick.  Tried calling NAA to order.  Placed on hold for 20 minutes.  Called back again.  Same thing.  Nobody, and I mean nobody has these in stock.

I'm delayed from posting until moderation reviews. My reply is listed above. It takes about 18 hours or so to show up. Thanks for all the help.

I have a Super Companion, and it is lots of fun. If you get one you will need to buy Remington caps and real 4F black powder. Most of the misfires you see are indeed caused by using other brands of caps.
