Concealment Vest

I am wondering if anyone uses a concealment vest for their NAA Mini(s). I always carry in my trouser pocket and sometimes in my boot. In cool weather I often drop a Mini in a coat or vest pocket. But most of my coats or vests are not just right for one reason or another. I have a very nice and expensive concealment vest that my wife gave me and it works good for a heavy revolver like a Ruger .357, but not too well for a Mini, and the vest itself is pretty heavy.

Recently I saw a cheap, under $20 shipped, concealment vest and bought it just for the heck of it. I have been pleasantly surprised. I have worn it several times now fishing and kayaking, with all the bending and maneuvering that those activities entail and so far, so good. It came with a little Velcro holster to position a small gun inside the concealment pocket: it is just right for a 3" Earl or a 2.5" Sidewinder. Too big for a shorter barrel Mini, but it is the best solution I have ever found for my Earl.

I am attaching three photos of my vest, and I would like to see any vest that anyone else here uses. I would be especially interested in any special holsters of modifications that you fellows use to carry a mini in a vest.

I don't have one yet but I have been thinking about getting one. My regular vest is about twenty five years old so it's just getting broke in ;)

I have a denim vest that has three concealment pockets , one small like a watch pocket but a little bigger , perfect for my BJ Talo , bugout or sidewinders, one big pocket with a zipper, my p-95 or my 442 with holster will fit in nicely and a good size pocket with a snap that my Sheriff or BW will go into.
I wouldn't carry my larger guns in there, but could if I wanted too, but when I wear that vest I carry my BW in it.

Uncle_Lee

It looks well worth $20.00.
Really, more.

Dinadan, Where did you order that good looking vest from?

$20 --- I'd like to know where they are available too!

.

Rather than a vest, I opted to keep things simple, and simply slip my BW (with birdshead grips) into the breast pocket of my shirt.

A shirt with a print pattern helps with concealment, but an alternative is to tuck it behind a pocket protector.

I bought the vest off Ebay a couple of months back. Here is a link to the sales page - they still have some. I was wrong about the price - with shipping it is $26.

Of course it is made in China. By the way, when it arrived it had a strong chemical smell. I hung it outside in the sun a couple of times for a few hours and the smell went away. Boy, I miss the days of my youth when new leather smelled wonderful!

I like that denin vest, Bigbird.

Pietro, I have experimented with shirt pocket carry in a snap closed pocket, but I thought the Mini weighed down my shirt too much. Does anything retain your BW in that pocket? I tend to bend over a lot and things fall out of my shirt unless I have a button or snap flap.

Rogue - that vest looks a little too badass for me to wear. Folks would ask me what war I  was in and I would have to admit that I served between wars.

By the way, I learned something when writing this post. I left out the r in shirt so that the the word I wrote was the crude term for excrement. When I previewed my post instead of with shirt pocket, it read with crap pocket. I guess crap is less offensive than sh-t and the software automatically changed the word! When I read my post I was basically thunderstruck since I knew I had had not written  that phrase. This experience is going to make me proofread my posts more carefully.

Whatever happen to men wearing vest anyway. Always liked the look and it gives you extra pockets to carry things in without filling up your pants pockets.

Besides the vest how about a good fedora .

I have always wished that fedoras would come back in style!

Here is another concealment vest - very heavy duty and very heavy. It has tough cordura pockets inside and will carry a full up six-gun like a Ruger Vaquero or Single Six, or one of each! The concealment pockets are so big that a Mini gets lost in them. It is a good vest for carrying an SP101.

OV-1D

How do they print in the pockets ? Probably not much with that interior lining .

I was wondering what you meant by crap shirt. Ha ha ha. Never even occurred to me.  :o

OV; I need to get two big velcro patches to place on the front and back of my "Vest." They should read, "GOOD GUY"

Just tell that you were so "badass" in your vest that no one dared pick on us while you were serving. After all, that is the point of a strong military!

I bought a NRA Concealment Hoodie a few years ago.  Hate it.  It has snap pockets on both interior sides lined with velcro strips and came with a velcro pouch to hold the gun.  The idea is good, and the holster piece that velcros into the pocket is nicely adjustable, but the the material and rest of the design is lame.  The fabric pilled up and looked worn and crappy after just a few uses.  The nylon inside support is uncomfortable and feels like wearing a rubber "welcome" mat.  A nice heavy leather vest would break in where it needs to and support the gun as it should.  I'm not a vest guy, but working on a denim jacket hack that could do the same thing.

Unless they are orange, and you are in southern Illinois, where I think everybody owns one.  Orange hoodies are the official uniform of Pike County  Illinois, best deer hunting in the state, where even the high school cheerleaders hunt.

I usually try to wear a shirt that's made from a printed fabric to help with concealment - call it "Urban Camoflage".. ;)

My BW's never come out of my pocket on it's own, most likely because I switched out the humongous issue rubber bumpers for a thin set of early NAA rubber birdshead grip panels, which I presume keeps the BW from moving via friction between the grips & the shirt fabric.

I can see where the rubber grip would help with retention.

Swolf - I did not know that NAA made a concealment hoodie. Thanks for the info. Considering how many folks carry these days it seems that there should be more jackets and vests made with a carry pocket built in. But then the designer would have to decide between accommodating a Colt 1914 or a NAA Short.

Dinadan,
Hard to pass up a deal like that. Ordered the vest this afternoon. For $20 I don't have high hopes but the pics you took made the vest look good enough to give it a go.
