With practice and a little tweaking a mini is snake head accurate at ten feet.

I have never even tried a 3 yd targrt, I always start at 7 yds...I figure it is dang hard to miss at 3 yds...

I've said all along that gun needs replaced. I would never trust it to carry. I bet you wouldn't stand in front of My BW...Just Sayin'...not that I would let you...

To find the accuracy of the gun you have to mount it in a machine rest like a Ransom Rest.  If you hold the gun you are testing the combination of gun, sights, shooter, etc. and that is a very different thing.

Mr. zburkett - i like the optic sight! can you tell us more?

Linux, it is a shotgun front sight I bought off ebay.  The original front sight is filed off and the rib drilled and tapped to hold the mount.  I used shims to get the right sight picture then stuck the whole mess together with contact cement and screwed it down tight.  Then pushed in the optic tube.  Total cost about $15.  This is the gun I usually carry and the shots I most often "need" to make are usually in a dim barn.  My eyes are not as bright as they were a few decades ago so this works for me.  I practice by pitching a hand full of spent shell cases, bottle caps, etc. out in front of me where they scatter from 5 to 12 feet.  I'll get a hit on the shell case 2 or 3 times out of 5 and a shell is smaller than a snake head.  Unless the animal appears sick I pass on shots over 10 yards.  On the Earl I carry for a trail gun I just painted the front sight bright orange with model paint.  My eyes just have trouble with stainless steel front sight blades.

That is exactly why I have been asking for a tritium sight for a BW....
My shop is a former 3 car detached garage that was formerly a carriage barn...
Lighting is not the best, but better that it was as a barn. Loft? About the same as a barn.

tks, sir! that's what i thought (drill/tap)...

i'll have to look around for the smallest front optic sight i can find (will check the big LGS across the street where i have a range membership)

i'm not even adverse to ordering a front sight from other manufacturers, such as S&W

sure wish our minis had configurable options - i think interchangeable NAA sights would make a nice accessory!

again, appreciate the digression!

Linux, the shotgun sight is much larger than most pistol sights.  The reason it works for me is I need it for hitting small targets at close range.  At ten yards in good light just painting the front sight bright orange works better.

Yes, it is a different thing; but is in my opinion, the thing I need to know. It is afterall, how it will be used.  For me, I think the pug tritium sight would be enough of a help.

Minute of paper plate at 7 yards is good for a pocket gun of any caliber. If you can do better, that's even nicer for the bad guy. He gets less time to scream.

If I can keep them all on a 9" paper plate at 5 paces then that is good enough for me.
This is quick, one hand shots. Like for self defense.

Agree!  I have two with 1 1/8 barrels, a .22LR and.22WMR.   The 5-7 yard, 9" paper plate test, if the time from draw to fire is under two seconds is (to me anyway) "acceptable accuracy" in a non-stress situation.  The minis are self-defense, close-range handguns which were not designed for competition target use.  If target shooting and super-tight shot groups are the goal, then one should get a Smith & Wesson 41 or equivalent.

Whatever accuracy one has when shooting at non-aggressive targets may be dramatically affected when the target is aggressive rather than static.  Stress, adrenalin, environment, the unexpected, target movement and such can make that 9" paper plate sized target seem matchbook-size.
