Me too buddy. My riding days are over for a bit til Alberto blows thru. Nothing serious just plenty of rain.

Bluelitenin

I have not been on here much since I got both of my ranger II's. Right out of the box one is not right. Once you open it and then close it it binds up. The hammer wont move or wont move to rotate the cylinder. It can be rotated by hand but not by the pulling the hammer. The other one seemed OK. I guess after seeing all the other posts about issues I'm waiting to send mine in until they have all the fixes. I am disappointed in the Ranger II.

MtGoat

Can you post photos of the front sight that they installed to get it to shoot more to point of aim?

I need to send mine in for several small issues including shooting high and to the right, cylinder locking up occasionally, failure to fire but the round always goes off on second strike.
Not serious issues but it seems that they pretty much have this little gem down so it is getting to be time to send it in for a few tweeks.

Thanks to all that have sent theirs in for repairs and have helped NAA figure out the little things that make this beauty run smoothly.

Thanks
Pat

I think the weathers my fault, I just bought a new BMW motorcycle and the weather is not helping in terms of being able to take the rides I envisaged when I bought it :( Wind and rain and when it's not raining it seems to look like it will as soon as you get far down the road. I don't mind if I hit rain too much, but I like to have my tires scrubbed in and get a few miles on the bike before riding in such conditions and getting mud and dirt all over everything.

Bigbird I'd like to see a picture of your new front/rear sight too, I guess I need to return mine for fitment, but I thought I saw a picture posted somewhere and it looked rather out of proportion.

If it stops raining for long enough, I might be able to get the thing out of the garage for long enough to get a picture :(

Ok new Ranger II sights

Whats that "DING" on top of the pivot hinge area ?

Good eye OV.
I guess I am going to wait a wee bit longer.

Bigbird48

Thats not a ding its a little oil that seeped out after oiling. Looks like theres a little carbon still in there ;D

MtGoat

I wonder if there is any way to get a half moon sight attached to that pin?

I wonder if the pin is threaded or pressed in?

I am glad that they came up with a solution.
I am not so sure I like the fix they decided to pursue.

Money could be made by milling a half moon sight of the same width and height and replacing the pin,

Do you find that it snags when pulling it out of a pocket holster?

Hmmm.

Pat

Bigbird48

I have it in a pancake holster and it doesn't snag when I draw. :)
Personally I think the half moon sights are to wide.

MtGoat

I find that they help align the sights and they need to be the proper width for the rear notch...agreed.

I was going to say the same thing, I think the longer blade helps you point it straighter because your eye can ascertain if you are out of line, when it starts to see one of the sides of the sight.

While that front sight may be a solution, it's not a looker IMO.

And for those who needed pictures, the sun came out this afternoon long enough for a quick ride up the canyon and back. Any further discussion on the motorcycle can go to the motorcycle thread,  in the Off -Topic section, I'm going to post the same there. We can't be discussing motorcycles in a Ranger II thread, not after all these years of never getting thread drift :)

Lets use the mc thread for mc and this for the Rangers as it will get so far off track we'll lose sight of what where talking about. Think you guys can move this stuff to MC thanks

bearcatter

I agree with some writers that a half moon blade would likely be better than a post. I like the half moon blades on my Bearcats, and can see where a post wouldn't line up as well.

A Ranger would likely be my next NAA; we'll see if the "final" design trips my trigger...

I have been watching the evolution of the Ranger II for a bit of a different reason...
I was considering selling my Ranger I, but was concerned about the Ranger II's impact on the Collector value of the Ranger I?

I've never fired my Ranger I, so I can't comment on function or Sight Alignment.
It has however been fondled, using Dummy Rounds for loading/unloading drills (no hammer drops).

It is interesting that the Prototype Ranger II had a Blade Front Sight, and knurled Grip Bosses on the Latch Bar.
I can only guess the changes were for Production Economy?

I've never found a photo showing the Left Side of a Ranger II, so I don't know if Cylinder Removal is accomplished Schofield style by the Aft screw on the Latch Bar?
Schofields had a Cam Cut Screw Shaft, so only a half turn was required to raise the Aft End of the Latch Bar.
I'm doubting that feature was replicated on the miniature version?

As far as Extraction issues... even S&W Models 34, 63, and 17 develop extraction difficulty after a few cylinders of .22LR Fouling!

There is a video on YouTube of a guy that reviewed the Ranger II.
Several times, while thumbing the hammer with both the weak hand, and with the strong hand, he would activate the Cylinder Latch, opening the action.
Any Ranger II owners here feel this is an issue?

I used to have an original Schofield, and currently have a Uberti Schofield.
At full scale, there is no problem from spanning the gap between the hammer spur and the latch.
Does the miniature scale of the Ranger II create an issue with unintended unlatching?

as far as the latch opening while cocking the hammer, I don't think its an issue, like I've said before he had to try to make that happen. Its never happened to me and I tried

I agree with that -- as I put 4 cylinders through my Ranger II as fast as possible the other day, and at no times did I ever open that latch.

I hadn't read all previous postings on the Ranger II, so I didn't know that video had already been discussed.

Good to hear that is not an issue.

Anybody can make a product fail, if that it their goal!

Ralph Nader infamously demonstrated how easy it was to flip a Chevy Corvair... causing an end to production.

Watching his video, it was easy to see what they had done...
The driver ran a Slalom Course with under-inflated tires. As the outward pitch increased, the tire body would roll under.
Eventually, the bare wheel rim would dig into the asphalt, and initiate the flip!

Likewise, CBS rigged explosives on a Chevy Pickup to "Demonstrate" how hazardous the Saddle Fuel Tanks were, when T-Boned!

I've got over 1000 rounds thru my RII and haven't even come close to hitting the latch as shown in the video. I guess if I try to make it happen I too could have accomplished it  ::)

Ranger ii is still not in the mainstream pipeline - i'm beginning to wonder if it will ever be ... but i guess it took a while for the Sidewinder to filter through (now you can get the three variant Sidewinder barrel lengths from many dealers)

ah well, my Sidewinder is still doing good duty...

I was told decades ago by a Gun Dealer that any new production was shipped to East Coast Dealers first, by Distributors.
Then, as open orders were filled,  distribution would progress Westward.
That seemed to be true for me...
By the time a new model would show up in an Oregon LGS, I had already read reviews by buyers back East.

That all may have changed since the Obama Era Shortages?

Of course, Factory Direct is a different story...
My Earlybird Sidewinder was #14, and Utah to Oregon is not a long trip!  ;)
