rough rifling

Mentioned this in my post on the new Guardian .380.

The initial cleaning; the bore was very dirty. I know all guns are test fired at the factory so I am used to that and one reason that I clean a new gun before firing it.

Well the rifling in this gun is rough, especially the grooves. Lands look pretty clean, not top notch though, but it is in the grooves that the worst roughness shows. Is this typical of NAA bores ?

I had a similar (but far worse) condition in a Smith & Wesson 617 I purchased a year or so ago. I sent that back and they replaced the barrel under warranty.

Thoughts ?

Short answer.... Yes.
When you get a new one, normally you can't even see any rifling at all.

A few months ago, I bought a new B/W.  I was in a hurry and did a sloppy job of cleaning and inspection prior to firing.  It shot right and high.  Having used and owned previous B/W's this didn't seem up to par, took a better look at both cylinders and the barrel.  Couldn't see any rifling in the bore, cylinders look like they had a build up of clay.  Took a metal wire .22 caliber bore brush and solvent and went to work.   Finally got them cleaned.  Never had this in a NAA gun prior and have owned several.
