Wife and NAA

My wife has never ever been interested in owning or carrying a firearm. At 55 years old she has arthritis so bad that her hands would not be able to use most firearms. I buy several firearms a year, we (me and my wife) were in my LGS one day recently and I was shopping for something (Henry Lever) she was nosing around just looking. She saw a Derringer in the case and made the statement that she liked that and would not mind having one.

After going home and me remembering that I went back and bought it for her about a week later. At the shop I noticed it was extremely hard to cock and when you pulled the trigger, heck I could barely get the trigger to go. I bought it anyway knowing that she could not use it. But thought that the interest in it would spark her for something else. Told the LGS that I would probably be back. Of coarse when I got it home she loved the feel and looks but no way she could use it. I told her I knew a better gun for her and wanted to show it to her. We loaded up and I took her with me back to the LGS.

Over the years I have had several NAA revolvers (not now but interested again so probably will soon) At the LGS I showed her the NAA revolvers. She questioned if she could even use those. Had the LGS get one out and showed her a 22lr. She loved it. We traded the derringer back in and the 22lr. went home with us. I took her to the range and showed her how to use it.

Just wanted to say thanks to NAA, she Loves that little revolver and with the 22lr. recoil she can manage it.

Just a comment

Stan,
That is very good!!!  I hope that you and your wife will have many range sessions with the new Mini.

You have just one??  Wait a minute......that will change soon!!!

Wel, at least holiday gift-giving will expand in choices.  Now comes holsters which match handbags and other fashion items, custom grips as plain or ornate as fits the situation.  There may be additonal minis specifically fashioned for each wardrobe choice. I hope your LGS takes direct-deposit!

I also have arthritis and find that the oversized, soft, BW grips make my mini much more pleasant to shoot.  In our shooting bunch there is an eleven year old girl who regularly shoots 38s and 9mms but will only shoot a mini with the oversized grips.

Another plus for NAAs, IME, is that they are fairly easy to cock, especially for a .22 handgun.

I should have added, put a couple of boxes of shells through it and then clean and lube it.  Also makes in easier and more fun to shoot.

Thanks guy's for all the comments. She did not like the way it would roll back in her hand a little when shooting it. So I did mention the Black widow style grips. She did not want them, she likes it small like it is to place in her pocket or purse

There are the other textured rubber grips like on the Bug Out. Barely bigger than the stock ones and just that little bit helps a lot in holding it. The Black Widow grips are awesome and I think she'd love the. They seem big but I can't really tell it in my pocket. Sure helps with shooting it though.

She may be a candidate for a holster grip.  It keeps things small for carry, but does provide a bigger platorm for the hand and fingers during firing.

Have used them on both my .22lr and .22WMR (both 1 1/8 ).  Some folk swear by them, some at them.  I like it for the .22lr, but have the rubber oversized for the .22WMR.
