Sweet Jesus of Nazareth , Florida is the damest state to try and get out of , been driving for almost eight hours , going at a good clip in a motorhome and just made it to Georgia (Valdosta) . I HATE FLORIDA WITH A PASSION . I'm a captive audience with my work but hells bells I'm going to win the lottery and say good fricking bye . Roads are a nightmare and the Florida state turnpike rides like a rocky back country dirt road and that's the premiere road ( COSTS TOLLS NO LESS ). DON"T MOVE TO FLORIDA UNLESS YOUR IN A CASKET ALREADY , REALLY , what a dump of a state and getting worse  . Honest to the GOD almighty within two years (hopefully) I'll be rid of this loser of a state . Besides Spanish is becoming the main language anymore and nobody wants to work , NOBODY even high school kids laugh at you for asking , nothing left down here but drunks ,deadbeats ,the almost dead its unbelievable . Somebody want to help this half crazed bugger with retirement money please do , I'll give you my first ,second and half of my third borne in return because they are literally no help to me and the wife . Thanks ahead of time . RANT OVER !!!! ........................................................................GET ME OUTTA HERE BEFORE I GO POSTAL !!!! AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

No Dinadan can't see the rigs yet on the east coast but we have poisonous algae pouring into our canals , rivers and oceans and nobody can override the billionares money that controls the fertilizers that runoff the sugarcane fields and beyond produce . Isn't mega money just grand  ,no holds bared when money is at risk of lowering profits . BULLSHI* S.O.B.'s . people can't even go into the ocean where the water emptys , its inches thick in the riversand canals (homesites , docks everywhere)  Its articles are everywhere in the buried news outlets . Fish are dying ,people getting sick manatees chocking to death along with seabirds and such . WONDERFUL FREAKING PLACE LIKE I SAID !!! This encompasses both sides of Florida . And officals in government wonder why everyone with half a brain is pissed in this country . Try this crap corruption in Europe and they would hang the S.O.B.'s by their thumbs . At this point I would vote for President Trump for dictatorship if presented to me long with martial law as long as they took state and D.C. Congressmen and Senators to the firing wall for execution and lets not forget the governors of most states .

OV-1D: Save yourself! Get out! My wife's crazy, hate-filled, bigoted, rabidly anti-gun, Marxist sister and her Jew-hating husband live near Orlando and love it! If they love it, I want nothing to do with it. As we say in the borderlands: "Sal si puedes," (Get out if you can). Take a drive out here to Texas: I think you'll like it better.

In sympathy,
Dirty Bob

I stay in Florida for one reason. The weather. I would consider a move to Georgia tho. Its nice up around Blue Ridge. I love Texas as well but man its hot and it rains so much more than Florida.

I feel so sorry for you, out there traveling around, feeling the air, seeing all the places that you pass by, checking out the good looking women in the next car, stopping to get something to eat, stretching your legs, looking at the sky & clouds, talking (maybe even arguing) with the family, & arriving at the place you were headed.

I feel so sorry for you because I will get to stand at the window today and look out across the cemetery to the Ohio River. I get another day on Earth and that is what I will do and see. Tomorrow will be the same, and the next day, until I can't stand any more. Then I will look at the ceiling until I don't see anymore.

OV-1D,
Let it all out!! Don't hold it in anymore!!!!

Ummm,I guess you don't like Florida???

At least when you go into the Everglades, they have the Burmese Pythons running rampant,as well as other invasive species.

I would look at it positively and say that is a target rich environment in the Everglades.  I hear that some of those Burmese Pythons are 15 feet and longer!!!

Dam it Unc cut that crap out ..................HEY you add quite a bit to this forum alone , I'm just a home buddy anymore , a place for everything and everything in its place, want no more or no less . You need to start collecting things "ALOT" of things that bring back memories like I do and be perfectly content in the middle of all the rubble ,Ha Ha Ha . The wife asks me why are you buying these fishing lures and I tell her I use to have these in my younger years and catch this so-n-so fish on it and relive that exact moment again , maybe even try and go again . I collect a lot of stuff Unc ,small stuff so I can have plenty ,Ha . I'm doing Ultra light fresh water tackle again with aims of wading into the alligators , salt water one would think is better but a bit boring in a way with me , been there done that kinda thing but wading in swamps and ponds gets the blood up and running quicker and besides no one else is there to clutter the waters . Anyhow cut that talk out or I'll get Harry to start some conversation with ya . :)

I wasn't born in NE Georgia, but I moved here as fast as I could! ( I was born in Florida in 1942, and moved to GA in 1987. I love it up here, but I avoid Atlanta like the plague. Traffic there is worse than Florida!)

Dinadan

Uncle Lee, your post reminds me of a conversation I had a few weeks ago with another old man that I ran into when I was kayaking on a local river. He was fishing out of a john boat. The first words he spoke to me were: "Man - what a morning!" We agreed that it was a beautiful morning, though really hot, and a great day to be on the river. We talked for a bit, the way old men often do when we meet on the water and we agreed that sitting home on a day like that would be a waste of a gift. There will not be an infinite number of days given, and us old geezers are a lot more aware of that than the young fellows.

Ovid - i am not a collector of much, but man I have accumulated a bunch of stuff. And every so often (once or more a month) I still have to buy something off Ebay that I do not need but just have a hankering for. Knives are where I am weakest. A shiny new Rough Rider or a rusted old Cattaraugus - I am a sucker for any and all.

By the way, I made my comment about the beaches tongue in cheek. I never thought you sounded like the kind of man who loves going to the beach.

Uncle_Lee

I don't have room to collect anything bigger than a mini and I am running very low on that room.

Really, it is a treat to get out to go to Wal-Mart.
The only other time is to the doctor. Yuck...

Bleak five hours is too far especially with the traffic being a nightmare anymore these days trying to get out . Maybe we can trade California and Florida for most of Canada at least half . Throw in Mississippi and Louisiana for the rest with Nevada with its casinos as a sweetener  . :)

Mainstreet , Here we camp in this 30 something foot motor home in Shady Grove Campground ,Way Cumming , Georgia . The weather is superb with a daily breeze , 60's at night 80's daytime big difference than that shi*hole (FL.) just little down the road south (on the map).

From Miami to Titusville is becoming one in the same terrane , all destroyed by over development and populations . Jensen Beach was 98+ degrees (actual temp nothing to say how it feels)) today and the nights are 88+ and that's right on the ocean inland holy crapola temps . Been like this for months now , never this prolonged periods 20 years ago , one or two days then back to the high seventies low seventies maybe high sixties at night but alas NO MORE .

its been unusually hot here also this summer, not with the maximum temperatures but with the consistent temperatures in the mid 80's in the day and mid 70's at night day after day.

I'm looking for elevation now to escape the torment somewhere around 3000 ft. plus . Friday morning here and a brisk breeze with middle 60's so far , its been real pleasant during the days also . I've come to the conclusion camping is for people that can't afford a CLEAN motel (of which all are questionable with clean) . Three big dogs doesn't make it much fun either but the kids had to go also . Back later . :)

OV-1D

Yup your right Smokeless that's why we're looking to move up to the mountains just short of the N.C. border . Home is in the heart of the mountains . Besides the best ever motorcycle run is in N.C. not far from here "Devils Gap" I believe they call it . This up here is much more like GOD's country . GOD used Florida as the cesspool for the Eastern seaboard anyways . By the way everyone GOOD MORNING AMERICA and you too Unc , it's in the low 60's and clear .

That's it Smokeless a lifelong friend of mine been working for the past 20 years it seems as a bike mechanic at the start of tail . Loves it up there but for me the laws in North Carolina stink compared to Georgia gun laws especially so . Where I'm looking is on the border of both states in that little corner of Georgia next to N.C. .

I decided I had heard enough of Florida's incessant whimpering about their rampant python "problem" when the state announced that they couldn't take it any more and were going to break down and allow hunters to harvest the snakes.

Wait, what?!! I've been listening to them whine for all these years while they were protecting them from hunters?!!  :o

Then I read the requirements: to be approved and get a tag  :o ::) you basically must be a professional python hunter with years of experience.  :o Yeah, there's gotta be lots of those out there.  ::)

Your right WECSOG Florida is messed crap hole anymore . Florida has these major problems but won't allow anyone to fix them , go figure , typical for these little tyrant commissioners and governor .They keep all these problems in play to keep justifying their over-paid jobs just like big government D.C. crap . Now were overwhelmed with all sorts of trash to be fixed and no money to fix anything (sound familiar) but they will keep voting increases in their salaries you bet-ya .

Alabama has some of the same problems. Someone who is not corrupt has almost no chance of being elected here. Or even running for a state-level office without having millions spent to destroy them.
And Alabama whines all the time about the feral hog "problem," while severely restricting hunters. They allow almost unrestricted hunting of them on private property, with the result that there are few feral hogs on private property that doesn't directly border WMAs. But they have fairly hefty restrictions on hunting them in the WMAs. So guess where all the hogs are?

Now they're making plans to scatter rat poison in our forests to kill them.  :o >:(
Of course they don't call it rat poison; they call it a new, safe (EPA approved) chemical that will reduce the hog population while having no effect on anything else.  ::)
But if you research this "new" super product you will find that it is the same product we used for decades to keep rats in check... until the EPA banned it a couple years ago because it could kill native wildlife.

I live and play in Mobile County, in the western outskirts of the city of Mobile. This is where I grew up, and most of my wife's and my family dwell, not a place that I chose because it is especially wonderful.

sorry Mr. OV-1D, but it sounds like you're on the wrong side of the state... the Suncoast is much nicer, and a quick getaway up to the Redneck Riviera is possible in less than six hours at 50mph...

i can make it on a half tank, but we have a diesel station wagon...

i have one friend who lives on the east coast, and she's pulling her hair out with the influx of Haitian, Cuban, and Puerto Rican immigrants (multiple break-ins, had cars stolen twice from her driveway - and this is in a neighborhood of $750K+ homes)

things seem a bit slower and more relaxed on this side of the peninsula - that is, until the snowbirds come down - but most of 'em are Canadians and not Canadians from Montreal, Toronto or Quebec, so a bit more conservative...
