Got my first NAA Mini!

First post and my first Mini. I got a 1 1/8" Magnum with the .22 LR conversion cylinder.

This thing is tiny! But I'm sure you guys already knew that.

Quick question though. I noticed that in the case there was a blue plastic net thing. I'm assuming it's to keep the spare cylinder from scratching anything else inside. My cylinder was just loose inside the box without the protective sleeve. Oh well. Is that what that's for?

Second question. How often do you swap out your carry ammo? I'm worried that rimfire ammo isn't the most reliable to begin with and I'm wondering if the ammo will degrade quicker than regular centerfire ammo. I know it's good practice to rotate your carry ammo in general. I'm just wondering how often would be the best practice?

As far as ammo, I picked up boxes of CCI Maxi Mags in Total Metal Jacket and JHP.

Anyways, I already love this little gun. I've already practiced removing and installing the cylinders to become familiar with it. This weekend I plan on taking it to the range to try out.

that was my first NAA mini revolver also,  way back in 2003 i bought it. i had bought a 32 acp Guardian about 4 or 5 years before that. under ordinary conditions and properly stored you shouldnt have a problem with 22 magnum degrading. as a whole 22 magnum will be more dependable  than 22 long rifle. yes, the blue net sleeve would be to prevent scratching to the cylinder and from the cylinder.

Awesome! Welcome to our Forum, and the world of NAA firearms. Good pictures too. Just so you know, this will not be your last NAA purchase.

Congrats and welcome!!! Hope you have many years of enjoyment with the mini.

Nice little piece you have, have fun, shoot safe.
A 7/8" rubber crutch tip makes a nice protector for the spare cylinders.

Nice choice , sweet little piece ain't she . :)

I'm probably an oddity in that each time I shoot the NAA at the range, I fire the 5 rounds of carry ammo first.  I then mostly shoot 22LR and some 22 Mag target ammo.  When finished shooting I load 5 rounds of carry ammo (Speer Gold Dot- Short barrel) and holster the pistol.

I think it's a good idea to have at least some practice with the carry ammo.  For me it's more important to have trigger time as shooting the NAA is very different from any other pistol I carry.  So I use less expensive ammo and fire many more rounds than I would if I was using my carry ammo.

First WELCOME.  You have the conversion cylinder so get some of these. Aquila Colabri. The weakest .22 made! At 10' it will not matter . They work for target practice in the garage or bedroom with a GOOD back stop. The noise is about the same as my old "Roy Rodgers" cap gun. I fire them with out "EARS".  If you worry put on some loud Rock and F the old lady next door.

Welcome and Congrats!  Good choice for a first one I'd say.   Next question is how you going to carry it, belt or pocket?
Just do a search as there are many options shown here.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome.

I agree that this is not going to be my first. I'm already eyeing up a 1 1/8" .22 LR only model.

I'm in Georgia. Recently moved from upstate New York. Thanks to New York's gun laws, handguns aren't legal unless with a permit. Here in GA, I already have my Weapons Carry License.

One thing I noticed that kind of bugs me. My front sight is ever so slightly crooked. I mean, it's so minute that you can barely tell unless you look real close. I'm kind of a perfectionist so it bugs me, but I doubt it'll have any effect on accuracy.

Here's another pic because they're good. ;D

Levinc; welcome to the forum. Look forward to your interaction around here. It is a great group. Just a note; most if not all revolver barrels are threaded into the frame. Depending on windage adjustments, it is not uncommon for a revolver barrel to be threaded more right or left to make adjustments and hence the front sight a tad off center some times. Shoot her and see. If the windage is off it may need to have the barrel/front sight rotated one way or the other.

Leavinc,
First welcome to the forum!!!!!!

That is a great choice for your first of a number of Mini purchases ( I forgot to tell you that it is addictive).

A great bunch of folks on this forum will be glad to help you with any questions you might have.

Range report:

Started with the .22 LR cylinder. Really had no idea what to expect so I figured I'd keep it more mild. Took some practice shots to get the feel for it. Next, I tried a group at 3 yards. You can see the center round keyholed but hit dead center in the first pic. I was shooting Remington Golden Bullets from a bulk pack.

Next, I tried the 22 Mag. Again I took some practice shots then tried for a group. The second pic is Maxi Mags at 5 yards. Not as good of a group but I was kinda nervous with the increased recoil from the Magnum rounds.

I'm not even worried about the front sight being slightly crooked. It's slight, but I can see it. When I'm aiming, I basically look down the top strap so its level and then put the base of the front sight on the bullseye. Why do these come with a tall blade sight anyway? I think the bead sight on other models would be more appropriate. That's probably what I'll get next if I get another magnum. A ported model with the bead sight.

All in all, it was a really fun day at the range. I'm hooked. I can't decide which one to get next! First world problems I guess.

So after my first range session I have noticed something that makes me nervous.

After firing 30 rounds of 22 Mag and maybe 75 rounds of 22 LR I've noticed that the detent for the cylinder pin on the barrel appears to be getting stretched out. My cylinder pin when locked in place can slide in and out about a 1/32" to 1/16". I'm worried that over extended use that the detent will eventually wear away and the cylinder pin could possibly pop out on its own.

jetcsa

leavinc, my NAA standard LR cylinder pin got to the point it would "unseat" itself and move forward beyond the detent. It did take it about 30 years to do so, however, and I bought it second hand. I sent it to NAA, and within a couple of weeks, they sent it back to me, looking like, and functioning like a brand new gun - complete with a new safety cylinder - at no charge to me. Customer service is very knowledgeable and helpful. Give them a call and express your concerns. They will tell you if it needs to go back for a tune-up, and it won't cost you anything.

Uncle Fatso

Buy a Black Widow.  You'll have useful sights and a cylinder pin that locks solidly in place. ;D
