I have about 30 handguns now, at this point...no long guns..though I think about it often! My handguns range from 22 lr to 45 Colt and 45 acp to 45/410 as well as 44 Special. Am retired LEO with 36 years of service, and yet never feel under gunned with just two NAA Mini revolvers. In 36 years, I was only in a gunfight in which I was wounded once, thank God, and I was stabbed twice, but everything ended well! As an off duty cop..I drew my weapon once, but did not have to fire it. Since retiring and becoming a civilian in 2010, I have not had to use a weapon even once...knock on wood! But with all my varied handguns, including semi-autos, Bond Arms Derringers, assorted revolvers, I have never felt that my NAA Minis were not sufficient for the need.
I have 5..a Pug, the original Mini, an EB Sidewinder, a Black Widow, and a Ranger II.
Not nearly as many as Uncle-Lee, but I'm working on it! My dear wife is supposedly purchasing the 22 Mag Color Case Hardened model with Faux Stag Grips for xmas this year! We shall see!
Anyway..I like my NAA Mini Revolvers, and having had actual experience with gunfights...I am still satisfied my Minis will do the job!
Any thoughts?

my thought is you cant beat real life experience no matter how many tactical classes you take, and you got it.

With single action, and not 100% reliable rimfire ammo, I'm not quite ready to trust my bacon to a mini. It would be a good secondary for me, if I wanted a secondary.

My most recent choice of carry is a Guardian 32, still tiny and light, with seven rounds of more reliable and more effective centerfire. I know, semi-autos can misfeed or jam, but I can clear it as fast as I could operate a SA revolver.

I suggest you go to  a LGS and try a few out for the way they feel in hand.

As for a SD firearm, I am sure you will get more than enough on that so I will leave it to the experts. 8)

As for the wife, I always suggest a nice, small double action revolver like a little 38 special.  I have no wife nor have I even been consulted, other than online, about getting a firearm for the little ladies.

The new Mini is a xmas present for me from my wife..not for her! She likes BIG guns! She was also a police officer for 32 years..and a better shot than me!

Doc I'm guessing you've got more experience than most so if you're comfortable then that's all that really matters. Besides who's gonna argue with Doc Holliday? Not me  ::)

RICKS PLACE

Hi Doc,   I am retired with 25 years LEO, city, also carried a special deputy sheriff's badge total 8 years. 9that was more security work than law enforcement.  A Over the years, I worked the street, missing persons, Robbery, Homicide, street supervisor and later was motorcycle section supervisor.   Glad you survived the bullet and knife.  Only time I was shot at, he missed.  (nine times)  Got behind a car for cover, couldn't return fire due to background.  He ran into the house and tear gas did wonders.  Have now been retired for 22 years.  I too feel comfortable with my B/W's and find trying to carry somethings larger inconvenient.  I try to stay out of places where there is a large potential for problems.  Also stay clear of the really dangerous places such as  "gun free zones'.  At 80 years old, if my wife and I have to walk any distance in darkly lit areas, I often had my B/W and now my Pug concealed in my hand.

Wow Doc I hope your Christmas piece comes thru . Wish I could justify one myself , want one real bad just because , that would be my new carry for sure . Fingers crossed for ya . :)

Good story Rick , I guess shooting in golf and guns its true those trees (people) are 90 % air and that's great in your situation . ;)
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

Well...We're waiting to hear back from Jessica! Can't seem to order the gun from NAA Website! Guess we'll just have to speak with Jessica! And yeah...I'll definitely carry it along with a New York reload! If and when I get it, I'll post a real photo as it will definitely wear the Faux Stag Grips!
Hoping for the best,
Doc Holliday

Doc Holliday

Well...the little feller has been ordered! According to Jessica, it will be about one week. Comes with grip of choice...so I selected the Magnum Faux Stag Grips! And..while we're at it..I absolutely hate the word Faux...just say imitation. It won't piss me off..honest! Don't use the words Bonded Leather to make people think they are getting real leather. My dear wife once paid $700+ for wire wheels and after we were married I realized they were actually just wheel covers worth possibly $200 or even less! Pleather is just great too! LOL!
YMMV

Doc,
I too, have had some experience,"Nam (three tours) Guarded the President three years (not Secret Service),40 yrs LEO and finally retired in 2008.

I too, have a vast assortment of stuff but it is always a NAA Mini (PUG usually) with me at all times.  I don't know how to explain it but it is always just seems "to be there".

I had said this a number of times before, the late Bill Jordan in his excellent book   No Second Place Winner  went into some great detail of the 22 magnum in a small light weight Chiefs Special. This was before North American Arms came on the scene.  The PUG pretty much weighs less than half the weight of an Airweight Chiefs Special so is even better.

Gosh, that new piece looks really great. Let us know when it comes in.  Range report too.

Doc Holliday

Thanks for the reply Top Dog! I surely will let it be known when the new toy arrives! Photos too, for Uncle Lee et all! As for range report that may be awhile. Don't get there often enough unfortunately. Will do so before I carry though! Today I'm sporting my Ranger II along with my Beretta Tomcat 3032, both in brown leather belt holsters by Bob Mernickle.
Have a great day,
Doc Holliday

Doc,
Mernikle holsters are excellent works of art.

Hope that you can go out and bust some caps at the range with your new piece when it arrives.

Photos would be nice too.

Doc, nice looking piece there.  I'm thinking your namesake would have loved to have one just like it.  Are you anxious?  (dumb question)  Is the First Skirt going to make you wait till Christmas?

Not trying to hijack your thread here Doc, but I want to thank you, Rick, and Top Dog for all of your LEO service.  If you listen to the left and their allies in the press, you might get depressed.  Don't let it get you down.  You, and anyone else reading this from the thin blue line, are appreciated by the vast majority.  Without you guys; it would be anarchy out here.

Hi Honky Tonk Man,
First, thank you for your support of our law enforcement community. You cannot know how much that means to us even after retiring! The news is always full of alleged bad cops..and to be sure..we do have some! But as I told my wife when she decided on law enforcement, when you take that oath..it means you will willingly go into harms way to protect our citizens, or you should not wear the badge! She served 32 years and did not regret it!
As for whether she will make me wait for Christmas, she always says that, but she just can't keep it that long...always too ready to see the smile (or in my case, toothless grin on my face), to wait!
Shes great! Jessica said they hadn't had these guns in stock for awhile, but have a new batch now. Supposedly the purchase went through OK, but haven't recieved the confirmation email yet. So...just waiting. By the way, here is a photo of my wife in uniform. There is an interesting, but horrific story of her service..which I will post later!
Thanks again,
Doc Holliday (Dave)

Nice photo.......your wife was one of the trailblazers for women to come into the force. Not all that common back then. She must be a special woman....i salute her.

I was both a firefighter and later a police officer ( fire and explosion investigator) still in the fire department for 18 years until the world trade center exposures eventually cut my career short.

Nice looking wife there Doc.  I bet you guys could tell some good stories at the end of the day!
Silence is Golden - Duct Tape is Silver

Doc Holliday

Yeah...well I said there was one story in particular. When she was a fairly new officer, a man murdered his wife. He dug out an area in the crawl space of his home and rolled the body into it. This was in July. About two weeks later the neighbors noticed an unpleasant smell. When the officers arrived on the scene...they knew immediatley what the smell was! Now in those days there was no CSI. Being as my wife was the smallest officer present they sent her in to get positive ID. She could see large maggots crawling all over the body, dining on the putrid flesh. Scary huh...but it gets much worse! Somehow the gravel and such around my wife and the body collapsed! And just like that..my wife was entombed with a two week old corpse in the middle of July! They were unable to reach my wife to help her, and it took eight hours to get a backhoe and pull a wall out to rescue her! This is a true story, and my wife suffers from PTSD to this day. I'm glad I didn't go through it..don't think I could have taken it!
Well that's one of the stories..and probably the worst!

Holy Smokes Doc!!  I've seen some gruesome stuff in my day too, but that takes the cake.  That's the kind of thing John Q. Public never hears about, let alone experience.  I hope time has helped her put some of that out of her mind.  One of my many jobs in the Army was training and evaluating mortuary units.  I visited a Marine Mortuary unit in Vietnam too.  None of that would prepare me for what your wife went thru.  Yikes!

Well...she did OK until the last few years when due to medical problems her mobility has decreased.  Now..she can't have a door closed or be in any enclosed space, especially an MRI which she really needs done! She also, cannot sleep without a night light...a bright one! Basically..she is afraid of the dark....and who could blame her! I love her with all my heart and must help her however I can! She is a good woman and went through something most of us can only imagine in nightmares! I felt myself a brave man, able to face gunfire and death! But...what she experienced is beyond our imagination! I can only feel admiration for her...and pride! She is my hero!
