Here is the BT with all the different Grip Options I can muster up.

That's all folks!! Hope these pics give a little insight to what you might like as an alternative to the stock grips.

silvershooter

pic 1 looks pretty good

   pic 2 & 3 the grips are too over-powering

   pic 4 is nice

pic 5 takes the prize...Classy and masculine

Hmm. Interesting. I don't care for the smooth bootgrip, but I like the laser-engraved bootgrip. The last one looks nice, too.

45flint

But the laser cut is not on the break-top.  I found the boot grip to be less pleasing than I thought it would be.  I agree the last one is the classiest. I think you need a little longer barrel for the boot grips to look the best.

Urgh..the ebony ones are terrific!

I think it's just the black.  Makes the extra grooves and hinges look more macho.

   Very sleek.

Hmm... I wonder how the folding grips would look on 'er...

45flint

The black also is more in line with the retro turn of the century look.  I kind of like the way the ebony grips as slight undersized and show a ring of metal around them.

ephraim

Standard grips that come with the BT are fine for me. Grain is attractive and the grip is wider then the regular mini. If it is not broke, don't fix it.

Regarding the thick grips--i think the polished magnum from my wooden box on another thread has the same thick grips. I hadn't really noticed before. That's curoius....

ephraim

quite so!

I gotta say, I HATE the oversized grips, on any model.  They just don't look right.

Maybe I'm just lucky in that I have long slender delicate lady-fingers (maybe that's why the ladies love me?) but the plain ole birdshead style is just fine with me, from a style standpoint, a comfort standpoint, and a concealability standpoint.  With a "choked up" grip, I can still get 2 fingers + trigger on the birdshead, so it just doesn't seem like a problem that needs a solution to me.

45flint

The last picture of the slim ebony grips are perfect for this gun. I never have liked the laminated wood grips. I never get ones that are perfectly swirled and then it just bothers me look at it.

redhawk4

I have big hands and still prefer to shoot with the small size grips, I crank my one finger round them and can hold it really tight. I haven't found that the O/S ones fit or help my grip. That's just as well because I really dislike the appearence of the oversize grips and so I'm blessed with a good excuse not to have to use them.

Having seen some of the posted pics on the forum, I'd really like some black grips, even in plastic for the look and everyday carry. The ebony ones are really nice, and I'm guessing they'd be pretty durable.

What *I* want is something between the stock-sized grip and oversized and in black wood. Old-style designs on the grip, like maybe checkering or fancy lettering, would be a nice addition, but probably too much to ask for.

redhawk4

I like black, but I'd like the plastic kind with the logo like my Smith and Wesson 32.

I can't see NAA going as far as the cost of mold tools to make them, but it doesn't mean I can't want some.

Ok three of us want the same thing. Black ebony grips with old time checkering.  Some grip maker out there has to see an opportunity.  Where there are three there are more.  Just remember I get the ones with the low serial number.

Leave it to the English...........  Buy a super quality, hand fitted, semi custom gun,,,,,, and put PLASTIC grips on it.....

Like taking your Purdey shotgun, and putting a fiberglass stock on it....

Plastic grips on a NAA break top fits in as well as this pink puppy fits in with his brothers....

45flint

SirBark  I said ebony, very expensive and classy.  Your group photo above would not understand.

redhawk4

"Like taking your Purdey shotgun, and putting a fiberglass stock on it.... "

You mean you've never done that?

I'm just looking for black and something that will stand up to many years of carry without getting messed up. Fancy grips are usually for safe queens. If I had a Purdy shotgun and had to carry it everyday I would fit a fibre glass stock or a Darvell 2x4 one and keep the fine wood ones in the box for when I wanted it to look real dandy or time came to sell.

Nothing wrong with the black plastic grips on the S&W after a 129 years. I think the shape really compliments the lines of the grip and revolver overall. In fact although the BT is the best looking gun in the pic, it has the least attractive grips of the 4, not that the BT grips aren't first rate for what they are, I just prefer the look of the others.

Plenty of pink grips around these days too, if you want to look like a pig in a box of puppies.

heyjoe

have you ever fired any of those? is the top one a 32 long? a gun like that with a shorter barrel in modern metalurgy would be what im waiting for.
It's too bad that our friends cant be here with us today

45flint:

was not talking to you.  Ebony is wood.  Plastioc is plastic.  The above grips are bakalite, actually closer to hard rubber than plastic.  Micarta is man made but not plastic.  Ebony is God made but not plastic.  Plastic is plastic.

Bear in mind, this is just me.  I am not telling you, our immigrant friend, or anyone else they CANNOT or SHOULD NOT have plastic if they want.  I am only expressing opinions..........

   That is still allowed, right????????

In my opinion plastic is and looks "cheap" and fits in on a gun about like the pink pig with the puppies.  Now, you can go pick up that pig, call it a puppy, pet it, talk to it, play with it, even try to teach it to sing............... but in the end,,,,, it is still a pig.  And any normal person will look at it, and you with it, and go "tut, tut,,,, look at that fool playing with a pig!!  He thinks it is a puppy!!!"

I think it illustrates the point quite well......

but that is just my opinion....

I don't like plastic grips myself, but I actually DO like the old-time plastic we're talking about. I have some of those on my old Iver Johnson break-top and my Astra Cub--probably a couple  others, too.

I feel that sometime around the 60s or 70s, plastic started becoming junk. I'm no plastics guy, so I don't know what the actual difference is, but there IS a difference.

Yeah plastic is still plastic and wood is still wood, but there IS a difference between, say, soft pine and hard oak, so I'm sure there's a difference in plastics as well.

   JMO, of course.

Want some nice black grips on your BT? "Borrow" a pair from a Wasp. I'll try to post a pic later tonight.

I think the Wasp grips look really good on the BT. My camera phone pics, not so good. Enjoy, or perhaps just tolerate:

You know, on the subject of these grips...........  there is a company, I have gone to them online but don't recall the name,,,,, and they specialize in old design bakelite rifle butt plates and the old style grips from the old guns.  The actually cast them new.  I bet if there was enough interest and/or a group buy, they would make up the mold and cast you guys some period grips that would look kind of neat on those little guns...........

   Just a thought............

Not bad, Gray!

The wasp grips have replaced the ones you see on line that are checkered.  Too bad the checker rubber grips look more vintage the Wasp grips have a pebble surface more modern to me.

I have to agree on the Ebony wood grips looking the best on the Ranger. A great big thanks to Jason for making the set for me.

zippovarga

I just did a little checking with my calipers and believe it or not, the oversize rosewood grips are only 1/10th of an inch wider than the stock birds head grips. I was expecting a much larger difference between the two. The oversize grips fit well in my hand, so I'm going to see how comfortable my pug is in my pocket with the larger grips. Don't really know why I'm sharing this....I guess it's better than whining!!! hehe

cedarview kid

wow, that's not much. It's noticeable, though, right? Interesting.

ephraim

Barky,

Haha, the pups are funny. They know how to get along together. Wow, maybe we could learn something.

Period grips for the BT.  I can't find black rubber grips that really look period.  I can't find ebony grips.  The only grips I can find are mastodon, white geniune ivory, and genuine white pearl. I think the ivory and pearl would look period in that at the turn of the century these materials were used. Just can't make up my mind which would look better.

ephraim

45flint,

I agree that the black checkered grips look better then the pebbled Wasp grips. Is it possible to still find the old grips? If so, where?
