I know this is like locking the barn door after the horse has been stolen, but for years, my son and I used the .32H&R mag in a couple of Ruger S/A's  I felt someday the round would become hard to get.  So, I stocked up reloading supplies over the years and we should never run out.  While the loaded round is hard to find, I still find listings for the bullets and brass.  If you really intend to stick with the round, buy up some bullets and brass.  Start reloading.

sirbarkalot

I did start reloading.........................................................  in 1974..............

   Thanks for the suggestion though..........

I have let my stock of components get low though..........  I am down to about 20,000 small pistol primers, and the less used large pistol is all the way down to about 4,000.  My supply of cast bullets in 38/357 has dropped all the way to about 10,000 and my 45 bullets are around 2,000 and I really need to stock up on that..........

My 22 rimfire is dangerously low at about 17,000 rounds..........  and only about 4,000 rounds of 22 magnum are on hand.............

I have 1,000 rounds of newly sized once fired 38 spl+P nickel brass sitting on my loading bench waiting for the 1000 jacketed hollow points sitting in the box next to them to be joined.  I may have to open one of my 8 lb kegs of Unique powder if the 4 lb jug I am presently working out of runs out...........

My 32 H&R brass is much less, and I only have about 1,000 of those, and another thousand or so of 32 acp brass and bullets ready to go together....  (you know 32 ACP works just fine the 32 mag guns, right?)

I have pretty much gotten out of most rifle calibers, and I sold my 40,000 rounds of 223 55 grain military bullets that I bought in bulk when the St.Petersburg Police Department stopped loading their own and went to 308 guns for their SWAT team and sold off all their components to the highest bidder, that just happened to be the gun dealer I was working for at the time.

I could go on, but it gets boring and someone will call me a liar..........

But I HAVE thought of doing some loading...........

I was looking for a couple of boxes of FACTORY hollow points for my wife's S&W 32 mag snubby that she carries in her jeans pocket and keeps under her pillow when I am not home at night.  If we shoot someone I want it to be with factory ammo.  Reloads are for fun and practice..........

I just bought a 45 auto tonight, so if anyone has any 45 ACP brass cheap, I am in the market.  Only have about a thousand of those.........  Not like my 45 Colt that I really have enough of.......

I have been thinking about stocking up with the Gubmint actin's th wheigh it iz..........

Puttin in some real supplies....... in case we get short of "stuff".....

Barky, I have wanted a 45 for a while.  What would you rec.?

ricart

Hey Barky,

I kinda figured as you didn't mention loading for the .32 Magnum, you were somewhat new to the art of making your own ammo.  I started rolling my own ammo  in 1958, but it is always nice to here from the newcomers.

sirbarkalot

Well I am an old fart, but not THAT old.  I was 21 in 1974 and that was when I got my first centerfire handgun and started loading 38 spl for it with a lee loader.

I was looking for factory rounds is all.........

I appreciate the input, please don't get the impression that I don't.  I was 5 in 1958 and was not concerned with reloading then...........  Was more concerned with the Austrlian Pine trees where we lived at the time and climbing them and such things............

Backporch22:

I am the wrong person to ask on the 45 auto.  I owned a Springfield Armory for about 3 days about 20 years ago, and it would not consistantly hit a garbage can lid at 25 yards, and I did not keep it any longer than it took to find that out.

This one that I don't have yet (A Para Ordnance GI Expert) is only the second 1911 45 I have owned.  (had a 38 spl Gold Cup national match for awhile way back there, but not a 45)  I have nearly always had a 45 revolver in my possession in either 45 acp or 45 Colt.  This is new for me, and I try not to make suggestions about things I don't know about...............

   Let's find out...........

Thanks Barky.  I was 21 in 1972, got you a couple years.  Never owned a 45 but thought about it for years.  I, like you, want to be able to hit with it, not just price.  Will keep looking.

I own about five weapons that fire .45LC. Does that count? LOL. I have no .45ACP. Not a big caliber fan.

OOPS!, said I started reloading in 1958, I went into the army that year.  Started reloading  in 1954. At 73, one year seems like another.

Backporch, I had an armorer MOS in the military, did a lot of work on the old 1911's.  I would stay away from used ones unless someone really knows the gun.  Too many "backyard mechanics" have screwed them up "thinking" they knew the 1911's.  Example, an over-polished  feed ramp can be a death blow to the frame.  I still like the Colt Combat Commander (all steel) when you can find a new one.  The Kimber is a good bet, but take a lot of money.  Springfield is said to be a good bet.  Remember, everyone from Remington Rand typewriter company to Colt was making the gun during WW2.   Most quality 1911 clones work well out of the box with FMJ ammo, I would want a few hundred "no jam" rounds of HP ammo to really trust one.

backporch22

Thanks, Ricart.  So far the Kimbers are on top of my list.

Backporch22, you may find what you are looking for at http://www.stiguns.com">www.stiguns.com. Their Spartan is the entry level gun at $600 avg street price. It has adjustable sights and is very accurate.

I own a couple of Trojans, An original Ranger(very small/concealable) (not the RangerII/ Commander size pistol) and an Escort. Oh yeah, an LS9, too. I've payed way more for less gun with other brands than STI. They are an international company located in the heart of Texas, just outside Austin. I sold my Wilson Combat Stealth type/colt officers model to but 2 STIs.

STI pistols are very accurate and have a customer service policy like NAA. They say if it's got our name on it we'll fix it. As long as you haven't ground something off of it they put in place originally. Marvelous shooters, one and all.

backporch22

Thanks Petetgunn, someone else told me to like at STI.  Will do.

I don't know ANYTHING about 1911 .45cal, but I have read about the new 1911 Remington .45, and I saw and held one last week at a gun show. I have never owned a 1911, but I sure liked the looks and feel of the Remington. If I remember right, it was $650.00.

chopprs

My favorite gun is my Colt National Match. It has a feel that no other has. Large but not too, fit in the hand could not be more perfect and fires like silk through a greased hoop!
