I don't know about one handgun only..I've got in the vicinity of 30+ handguns, so I've got choices. But one of my favorites for ease of carry, is my Beretta Tomcat 3032. Easy to carry, minimum recoil, and with the Tip Up barrel..easy on my arthritic hands!

That is the cat's meow. Is it reliable?

Warthog

Pennsy, I have an INOX 3032 Tomcat.  It really is a great litle gun, recoil is easy and the tip up barrel makes loading it the first time and then reloading it easier for my weakened hands.  Just pop up the barrel, drop in a round and close it, no struggle to pull the slide back.

So far, mine has been very reliable, I had one of the blued ones long ago but foolishly sold it to a customer who told me how much he wanted one. :'(

They are great litle carry pieces, I guess I am more of a Revolver guy though. ;)

Warty,

Isn't the trigger pull long and heavy (~10 pounds) on the TomCat?
Bill

I won't carry a laser device... unless it has stun, kill, and disintegrate settings.

Warthog

Bill,

I did a little trigger work on mine.  It is a bit of a strenuous pull from the factory but then if you are being attacked and the adrenaline is pumping, I don't think it will make it too hard for you or anyone to shoot.  Did the trigger work for range time mostly...don't have a trigger pull gauge either, sorry.

What about the single action pull?

Warthog

The SA pull is pretty good right out of the box IMO.  It was the DA pull I lightened a little.

Pennsy, for me the little 3032, both my older one and the one I got recently, have been great little carry guns.  They are extremely easy to conceal and IMO, the 32 ACP round packs a good punch for stopping a person cold.

And it looks good doing it . I will have to keep my eye out for one. Pretty pricey from what I'm seeing.

What kind of pricing are you seeing?  $448 shipped:

Yeah , that's what I'm seeing. I haven't checked the used prices. I'm used to $200 plastic guns ::)I've got a nice J frame that sits in the closet. I should sell it and get something I will shoot more often.

billmeek

Used Inox (stainless) Tomcats seem to be running close to new prices.  Beretta only (currently) lists the Inox version on their website.  If you do decide to buy used, I'd make sure to get the newer "wide-slide" which was modified to correct the frame cracking issue of the earlier models.

Yeah pennsy, mine is. Also very easy on felt recoil. The first round is double action, but then single action and very easy trigger. Mine is the stronger wide slide version and no frame problems after many hundred rounds fired. And the tip up barrel makes racking the slide with my arthritis a non issue.

All would be well and all would be well and all manner of things would be well.

Might as well buy new then . I heard of early frame cracks. Maybe if I stumble upon one locally , I can make a deal with my Smith. It's a beauty but the butt makes it too hard to conceal .

Warthog

Pennsy, my dealer had to do a little searching for mine.  They are usually available online though, I just like to support my LGS. 8)

I bought mine, new, with a total of three magazines, for less than $400...plus tax.  I added the faux ivory grips and the little extensions to the bottom of the magazines.  Those came from EBay...springs and the trigger insides got a little polish, by me, springs were trimmed a little, by me, and I found mine to be just right, for me. :)

As one who has owed both the blued and the INOX, IDK, I think the INOX cleans a bit easier.

Hey Warthog,
I've got those magazine extensions too. For a guy with big hands, they are a lifesaver! Mine were made by Pearce..don't recall where I bought them, but I know Midway sells them. Since they don't increase the mag capacity, they don't impact concealabilty too much. Just out of curiosity, where did you buy your faux ivory grips?

Well, thank you for all the useful info . Also for giving me the itch $$$$! At this stage I think I am going to buy one-sell one and keep the wife happy.

Bearcatter, I gotta ask: does even thinking along those lines means you live in California??   ;D
(or Mass, NY, NJ, MD, Hawaii....)  I don't know whether to be sad or angry that this is even thought about.
Asks Steve from Boise ID?

Doc, I bought both of these off of EBay, the extensions are made by Pearce but I can't remember who made the grips...I still have the box that were in, I put the original grips in there so I wouldn't lose them.  I will check and then let you know...in time. 8)

Looks like them, mine are or were made by a company named AJAX,

Ranger Jim, I love all of the 327FM's I have and there are more than most have, I think the round never really got a fair shake.  The people who get paid to review these things, weren't given money for this because IDK why really.  So the guns and the round was never taken seriously.  I have brass, bullets and powder to last me a long time plus thousands of factory loaded rounds, which will of course give me more once fired brass. ;) I have S&W's, Charter Arms and Rugers in the handgun caliber plus a lever action from Henry, along with several single action revolvers.  IDK, but for me it was a great SD caliber that wasn't so hard on me, like my once favored 44 mags or 357 Mags were.  I hope it will make some sort of come back but I am not that hopeful as I fear the round will eventually completely disappear from the Common Man's/Woman's mind.  People just aren't ll that long term anymore..... :'(
I agree, Warty ... I LOVE the 327!  I've bought my wife only two handguns in the twelve years we've been married, and both were 327s—the SP101 and the LCR.  The ability to shoot 327 Federals, 32 Shorts, 32 Longs, and 32 H&R Magnums really made it easier for my wife to learn and train.

BTW ...  That Henry sounds awesome—wish I had one!  Enjoy, Warty!   :)

So, making guns illegal will take them off the street?
Perfect!  We should probably make heroine and meth illegal, too!

Bill, they came in an AJAX box, label from AJAX said TOMCAT grips and they were NOS, New Old Stock.  The guy probably had them in his/her shop for a while and found them and put them on EBay where I grabbed them up.  Maybe AJAX no longer makes them?  They fit my hand well, feel good in hand and along with the black hex grip screws look pretty nice IMO too.  I hope that if you or Doc want some of them, that you can find some more of the NOS if AJAX stopped making them. :)

Hey Warthog,
I found a pair on ebay and ordered them today. Don't know if from AJAX, but close up picture looked just like yours. Here's hoping! 8) AJAX site does not list them.
Thanks for help.

Well Doc, IDK, why the AJAX site doesn't have them on there...do I need to dig out the box and take a picture. lol ;D

I hope that the ones you get not just look good but feel good like mine do.

IIRC, Ajax had money troubles, changed hands, and new owners greatly reduced the offerings. Only about seven material colors for nine guns now. Pitiful.

One handgun: that is a tough question.

My first thought was my Ruger .357 SP101. It is accurate, hard hitting, and fun to shoot (with .38 ammo). Too big for normal concealed carry for me.

My second thought was my Ruger Bearcat. It is accurate and and fun to shoot with any .22 ammo. Too big for normal concealed carry for me.

My third thought was my Ruger Single Six in .32 magnum. It is very accurate and fun to shoot with .32 longs, and has serious stopping power with magnums. Too big for normal concealed carry for me.

But after some more thought I have decided that for now my one handgun would be my 2.5" Sidewinder. It is my favorite carry gun for pocket carry. It is fun to shoot, though not as accurate as any of the three Rugers, at least in my hands. It is the gun that I pick out to drop in my pocket more than any other when I am heading out kayaking or walking or puttering around. When I stop to do some plinking out in the swamp it is the gun I have so it is the one I shoot. So, even though it is not really the equal of any of the Rugers in most ways, it is the one I actually have with me most of the time. It would be illogical of me to choose a firearm other than the one that I choose to use the most.

Smith and Wesson Model 632-2. shoots everything from 32 S&W to full power 327 federal. even 32 acp in a pinch. the most versatile gun i own.
It's too bad that our friends cant be here with us today

I would take my Glock 27. I have a 9mm conversion barrel and am actively looking for the .22lr conversion kit. The .357 Sig barrel I would pass on, unless I suddenly came into a plethora(?) of rounds.

My "1" gun to keep would be my S&W 649-3 massaged by S&W's professional gunsmiths with repairs, a polish and a trigger job. Also it sports an XS small dot front sight and a Crimson Trace green laser. Carried with Hornady Critical Defence 357s.
