Best self Defense Ammo For Pug?

I'm fairly new to the forum and to NAA Revolvers. I just bought a Pug and I am wondering what the best self defense ammo might be when carrying the Pug.
I'm still getting used to firing it and trying to hit a bullseye at the range from short distances.
I have tried CCI, Hornady, and Speer. So far I'm not that accurate at only 4 yrds but I am getting better. At this point I am wondering if the .22 Magnum (1" barrel) can actually take down a bad guy preditor and what ammo would be best in that situation.
Your thoughts or info would be appreciated.
