Glenn,   How did your 30/30 - 22 differ from the .219 Zipper of Marlin and Winchester?

glenn

It was actually considered as a 219 Zipper Improved.
I found this out from RCBS
Long story ... try to make it short ...
I bought the gun .... an old breakdown single Savage model 219 ... marked as .22 Hornet.
Well ... it got pretty obvious, pretty quick .. that a .22 Hornet round WASN'T gonna fill that hole in the back end of the pipe.
I made a cerro-safe cast of the chamber & sent it off to RCBS.
They called & told me what it was (219Zip Impr)  ... so I contracted them to make the 30/30 conversion dies & a set of reloading dies.
I played with it for a while ... soon discovering that it didn't have a fast enough twist for heavier bullets in .22 .. (keyholing) .... but it sure puts the lighter bullets downrange at a pretty zippy rate.
I later found a 20 gauge (model 220) barrel that pops right onto it ... so now I've got a combo gun.
I haven't shot the rifle barrel in several years ... but I still have about 30 or 40 rounds loaded for it.

Anybody give NAA a call to see what the horses mouth thinks ? Those specs should be on the money and ask what can be done to scale the ammo down , if they couldn't I'd ditch the piece of .... gun . ;)

For those looking for a technical drawing, the Sporting Arms and Ammo Manufactures Institute, Inc. (SAAMI) is the authority in our country for size specifications. Yes, NAA is a member. Start here:

Scroll down to the following page numbers

25 NAA.   P 33
32 ACP.    P 35
32 NAA.   P 37
380 ACP.  P 50

These are the specs every manufacturer in our country adhere to for case/chamber/barrel dimensions.

32NAA is a very good SD round IMO, as is the 327FM.  Sadly, it doesn't get the press that say a 25 acp will, thought I would rather carry a knife than one of those and I know how many of you like them, I don't. ???

I had a 25NAA Guardian for a while, I still have two boxes of ammo too, found them while looking for something else.  I stuck with the 32NAA and sold the 25NAA.  Thought the round would take off better than it did.  It is a lot better at stopping a person than any 380acp ever will be.  Again, my opinion.

From the saami specs ... it does look like the 25 NAA has had the semi rim REMOVED .... as compared to the 32 acp case.
Spec shows the rim of 25NAA as being .337 ... same as body of 25 NAA AND 32 acp.

I came across a nice used .25 NAA Guardian today. It's listed for $399.95. I would like to have one but think the price is too high. Also, I'm concerned about the limited availability of the .25 NAA ammo. Really intrigued but cautious. Looking for some input from knowledgeable Guardian fans.

That's not high. I don't think it's unreasonable at all, mostly because they are so hard to find--but not as hard as the ammo. I have about 400 rounds, if I remember correctly, but since I don't have much of a chance in replacing it, I don't shoot much of it. The only time I've shot mine is in the video I posted on my YouTube channel.

If you're any sort of a collector, get it. If you only want to shoot it, you probably shouldn't get it. If you want to shoot it once in a while and maybe carry it, I'd say go for it. Good luck in whatever you do.

Finding ammo would be difficult, makes me wish they made a .25 acp

I agree and was thinking the same thing this morning. 25 acp guardian and 25 acp mini!

Seecamp makes (or made) a .25 ACP pistol. I am probably wrong but didn't the Guardian start off as a .25 ACP?
