One of my Regular "Old Cronies"  :)  brought in his NAA Flap Holster for repairs.

I'm perplexed as to how to go about it.  The tear is near/at the stitch line.

I thought about using Seat Belt Nylon.

I even thought about just using "Construction Adhesive", it is very close in color to the Holster.

Just a big Glob of Adhesive and push it in place.

Anyone else have this issue?  :o

If so, how did you decide to repair it?

Sell him/her a new holster.
You could make a little flap holster that would look better and last longer.

I agree.  Replace it with one of your design.  Short of that; trace and replace the torn part.  Let us know how this is resolved, Rick.  I learn something every time you post.

Well, thank you for your confidence Uncle_Lee  :)  And, I did take your advice  ;)

I thought about the best way to do the repair.  I think this is it!

He may notice the repair makes it look a little different..... Hope he doesn't mind  ::)

Thanks HT Man!

There are several problems the NAA Holster has.  But, I'll focus on the Belt Loop.

There is 2 3/4' between attachment points, most people wear a 1 1/2" Belt that leaves far too much "wiggle room" for the gun to move back and forth. The distance should/could be closer. For the weight of leather used, about 1 3/4" would be better. JMHO

A "Molded Belt Loop" does help keep the Holster from moving but adds to the labor costs.

These are done in the "production shop" by El Paso Saddlery.
(according to the Sales Manager of El Paso Saddlery I met at a Gun Show)

I have no other info on their origin or Maker other than his word, they have no "Maker Mark" other than NAA's Logo

Rick;  Have you thought about using Gorilla glue.  It is water activated and holds really well.  Wet down the points of attachment and then use some way to clamp it into place.  I have had great success with it, but admit I have never used it on leather.  They advertise it works on leather well.  Just a thought.
A gun is like a parachute; if you need it and don't have it, you probably won't need it again.

grayelky

Nicely done. I like the contrasting colors. Sets it off a little.

Wowser Rick!  Some lucky son-of-a gun is smiling right now.  I like the 2-tone look as well.  This will outlast the customer.

Hi mrmurl,

I haven't used the Gorilla Glue. I've heard it works great on some things. "Masters" Contact Cement is what I use the most.

I would worry about a water activated glue on a wet holster. At this time I need to stick with what I know best and is working! lol!!

Yup Rick stick to the tried and true , all these new found products never do as good as the old stuff . I've tried that gorilla glue (expands and foams) and as all the other adhesives and nothing holds up to the moisture ,oils or is as clean as the old contact cements designed by and for leather workings .. Nice remake of that flapper by the way and thanks for the pic's .

Thank you Uncle_Lee!   It makes my day when I get a "atta-boy" from you!  :)

I wish I could make Holsters for every one of your NAA's for you! (free of course!)

Some day we need to sit down and drink a pot of coffee together!

Since the damage is on a separate part, I would just duplicate that part. Careful to have new stitch holes match old. Were it not separate, I'd make an oval piece to match the bottom end of the belt loop, putting it over the damaged end, and stitched.

Thanks Rick, but since I am not going to be playing with guns any more I don't see much of a need for holsters.
BUT i SURE ENJOY LOOKING AT THE ONES YOU MAKE....... 8)

Wow that leather must be really dried out to tear like that. Repair yikes. yes new holster time. But if they insist to try to repair, Maybe glue then cross stitch across the tear line. It might hold for a while.

It really was a fun project!

Do very many people use this style holster??
Rick Jorgenson

I like that style above all others.
It is just that I go for the western look.
Most of the ones that I have are made and stamped in the western style.

Rick,
Sell him a belt to help display your work at the level it should be shown at!

Yep a custom tooled double layer DGL belt would be just the ticket to match that nice piece of art he calls a holster!

Just a side not.  I think your fan club was hoping Courtney would have modeled it...
