If you want to tie the "Ranger" name to a turn of the century gun the Hopkins and Allen "Ranger" is probably it.  Though the Ranger was not a break top Hopkins and Allen went on to make lots of turn of the century break-tops that had an enclosed trigger.  I have a almost perfect example of that gun that I bought last month. Below is a discription of the different models of the Ranger produced.  The picture is of the 22 cal. model.

   Ranger No. 1

.22 long r.f. caliber, single shot revolver, spur trigger, 3" round or octagonal barrel, solid flat frame, full cylinder made from 1871 to 1900, despite of the caliber and markings exactly the same as the Blue Jacket No. 1.

   RANGER No. 2

.32 short r.f. caliber, 5 shot single action revolver, spur trigger, solid flat frame, 2" to 3" round or octagonal barrel, fluted or plain cylinder, square but or birdhead gripps, nickled, marked

Lastly a picture of Hopkins and Allen's Safety Police which at the turn of the century was considered one of the best designed break-tops. This is the 4" inch barrel, I have the 3" barrel. The way the sights come up through the top strap as you close the break top is identical to our NAA Ranger.
