I have posted before my favorite plinking mini is my 3" Earl. It is one of those guns, that, for some unknown, unexplainable reason, seems to become one with me, when I shoot it. What I am lacking is a holster for it. Until today. I get a package almost everyday at the shop. When I got one Wednesday morning, like always, I did not bother looking at the return address, figuring there would be the paperwork I need inside. Much to my surprise, a super nice, black leather pancake style holster was inside, made expressly for a 3" NAA Earl! I was not expecting it yet, as I am rarely in a hurry when I place an order for personal stuff. As anyone who has purchased a holster from Desert Gun Leather can attest, the workmanship is superb. This one is no exception. It is all I could have hoped for. There is little doubt I will carry my Earl more when I go roaming in the woods. I hope my Black Widow appreciates the rest......

I'll try and get some pictures up tomorrow. Or the next day.

I agree with Greyelky, my Earl is the most natural pointer of all my four NAA revolvers and is the one I plink with, or shoot for pure enjoyment, because it is the most enjoyable for me to shoot.  I practice with my others at self defense distances against paper plate size targets, but my Earl (4") just points so naturally that I'll shoot at any other fun target available, cans, spent 12ga. hulls, you name it, and at distances much greater than the 10 to 21 feet I use for self defense practice.  It's an exceptionally fun gun.

I have a 4" Earl with both cylinders.

It's been to the Range once. Shoots fine, I carry it about once a month just to keep it in rotation.

Lately I have been getting orders for the 3" Earl, every time I pick up that dummy gun to build a Holster I want a 3" more!

So, this weekend there was a 3" earl on GunBroker and the next day I logged on and looked, it said I "won" it!

I'm pretty excited to get it!  Photos soon!

Wow--you got that at a great price, Rick!  Can't wait to see it modeling your holsters soon!   :)
So, making guns illegal will take them off the street?
Perfect!  We should probably make heroine and meth illegal, too!

Rick_Jorgenson

It's my first time on GunBroker bidding.  I'm pretty excited about this one but there are 2 more I thought I should put bids on and.......

This may cost me some money over the next few days!!!! lol!!!  :o

One looks like  a "Early Model" Black Widow and looks kind of beat to S#%t rough.  I'm the only sucker bidder on that one so far  :o

The other is a .32 Guardian. There are several bids on it and a few days left.  I just thought it should be mine (at that price) the other night, I seem to be the high bidder for "way to long" at this moment!  ;D

Maybe there are more photos of guns coming! lol!!

Those are some pretty big "Shoe Boxes" to fill Uncle_Lee!

I'm working on it though!  ;)

One of those bids may be my 4th Black Widow! I wonder if there is a 12 step program I should call? .......  Nope!  I'm FINE!

I know it is hard to believe but we live in a super small apartment and I ran out of room to store "shoe boxes".

I commented two days ago about how I also like the pointability of my Earl. What I didn't say is that it's also my favorite day-hike gun, and this morning I went for a five mile hike into the Danskin Mts east of Boise on a trail that was new to me and turned out to have 1750 feet of elevation gain in the first 2 1/2 miles. Returning down from a climb that steep isn't a walk in the park either :P
While the belt rig was out and set to go I took a photo to show. Two qts of water, belt knife, windbreaker in case needed at altitude, small can of critter spray, and the 4" Earl with mini master grips.  There's a little zip pouch behind the windbreaker that has room for some small items like a few Cliff bars, a lighter, small flashlight, moleskin, and a cap. A light rig for day hikes in the mts, where there is always at least some chance of things going sideways.  Cellphone travels in my pocket because even in the backcountry if one gets up high enough one can find service.
Be well all, Steve in Boise

Boisesteve

I forgot to mention, the holster the Earl rides in is a one-of-a-kind, no more to be made, Cordura with suede lining and safety strap rig made custom for my 4"Earl by the late Ben Wetzel at Idaho Leather Co here in Boise. Sadly Ben's passed, and with him his little shop. He was a craftsman.

Looks like your ready for anything Boisesteve!

Is your Cordura/Leather Holster padded with 1/8" foam?  Or is the suede glued to the Cordura directly?

Just curious, would appreciate a closeup photo of the Holster setup  :)  I like to see what other Makers have come up with.

Be careful in those mountains!

We have "Cougars" from Scottsdale that wander around the local shopping malls giving us trouble.  ::)

Hey Rick,
It's tough for me to tell for sure by feel, but it does feel like there's a tiny bit of 'give' or padding between the cordura outside and the suede inside. I'd never wondered if it had any padding because it sure isn't too thick, but it does have a tiny bit of compressibility. Maybe 1/8", maybe even less than that, but it feels like it's in there.  Never noticed before.  I'll post a few pics for what they may help you.
About them 'cougars' from Scottsdale, I have a lovely and wonderful wife and have no interest in 'cougar hunting'.  Yet I might meet the 4-legged kind in the mts, and have in the past met two wolves on the trail, but that was within the city limits of Boise!   There were houses within a few hundred feet down range, so I hauled out my can of spray that day, aimed it and spoke at them in command voice. The alpha wolf clearly thought it over and calmly turned and left, followed by the lesser wolf who had gone behind me through the sage brush along the Old Oregon Trail. Smartest opponents I've ever had. I was actually impressed at his understanding and mastery of their situation.  Fish n Game warden said the official line "they don't live here" was a lie told by administrators, told by telling a half truth. The wolves don't live in Boise, but DO have ranges that cover 150-200 miles and are coming thru the edges of the city often, the warden said, looking for easy pickins like small dogs in an unattended yard.
Anyhow, saw no cougars, wolves, bears or people yesterday, just some soaring ravens. It was a great day in the mts.

Rick,
You know I work in Downtown Scottsdale and have to keep an eye on all those Cougars when I go out to lunch daily...

Thankfully they are looking for younger bucks. But there are some older cougars that may find a "Dad Body" of interest.

I avoid them all.  Just to old to run from them or the wife!

Boise Steve,

Thanks for the photos Boisesteve!

I'm always interested in rigs others have made.... and work for people!  No single Holster (or gun) does everything or is appropriate in all occasions.

It looks good and looks well made for sure and it does exactly what you need it to do on your hikes.

Love your story about the wolves.  It sounds like a great area to hike. You look plenty prepared!  (inexperienced hikers should take note)  ;)

The Scottsdale Cougars are a pain in th more trouble than any middle aged man would ever bother with (leave that for the youngsters, let them learn the hard way!) lol!

I get them in the shop once in a while trying to buy a Holster for "Who knows"  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ?   Very few know anything about the gun they are trying to get a Holster for so the whole thing becomes a pain in th difficult, and usually a waste of my time.

Ken, when in Scottsdale here is a survival tip...

When approached by the Scottsdale Cougar....

#1 open your wallet (it gets their attention)
#2 throw dollar bills on the ground (starts a feeding frenzy)
#3 walk the other way while they are distracted!  :)

Not having dealt with Cougars, but, having distant memories of the dating scene, I suspect if you started the conversation with, "Could you be a doll and get a round or 2? My ex has cleaned me out." I suspect they would leave smoke in their trail.

BoiseSteve  if I was you I'd glue a piece of leather over that steel button inside that holster, keep from scratching your weapon . Just my two cents of an opinion .  :)
