New grips for an old mini

I have an older (1992) mini in 22LR, 1-1/8" barrel.  I was thinking of a bigger grip, or maybe the holster grip, but I've heard that the older minis may need some hand fitting for a new grip.

Has anyone done this?  Just looking for info on what sort of fitting is needed, or what's a good grip choice?

Thanks,

I don't have an old mini but I put cvang grips on mine and I trimmed a little of the wood with a razor and glued a small shim of paper with crazy glue. All very simple.

I don't have an old mini either, but I put oversized grips from NAA on my minimag 1_1/8. They made a huge difference in getting a consistent grip. Some advantages would be the ability to call NAA first and see if they have any input, and the ability to return it to NAA if it's more work than you want to put in to fix a problem. Also, the hard rubber material is easy to work with.

I also found that having the same grip on the mini and the black widow makes getting a good grip while in the pocket the same whichever one I'm carrying at the moment.

Just looked at grips for the 22LR, they all have this disclaimer now:

For older firearms, serial numbers starting with 'B, C & V', please contact the factory as custom fitting is required.

Mine is a "V".

Spose I will call them.  If it is something I can do myself I may try it... possibly on a cheaper "practice" grip before trying on a $40 nice grip.

Bought a set of bone grips from Spresser, for a Newbury Park short.   I had to make adjustments to the grips to get them to fit, took about 7 minutes of cutting with a Dremel and fitting to end up with a perfect fit.
