Never got any input on the guardian grip question I had.  Is it possible that noone else in CA has a Guardian with the same grip issue I have??

bud

Reread your post, and I do not know what ILS on the grips mean. I have the Guardian 380, but I like the grips on it. I live in Indiana, so maybe in Calf. the NAA Guardian grips are different. Call NAA C/S and ask them your question.

Bud the ILS is the Intregal Locking System.  I have already talked with NAA and they don't really want to answer the question.  That's why I was hoping maybe one of the "tinkerer's" on the forum might have some advice...........:-(

bud

I knew that. Senior moment!!

Don't understand why NAA C/S wont help you! Sorry I couldn't

I suspect it has something to do with lawyers.

I'm sure your right Gray....and I don't blame NAA I just thought maybe someone else on the forum had dealt with the "custom grip" issue on a Guardian with the ILS and might know a way around it...

...Say Westy, I didn't see the post describing what the issue is but, If You bring up the NAA Home Page, & click on the Owners Manual & also the "Exploded Diagram & Parts List", You will get a good idea of the ILS..(You can also get parts pricing)...

Clipper thanks.  What I am trying to figure out is if anyone who has a Guardian with the ILS on it has found a way to customize grips for it that don't break.  NAA says if they put the hole in the grips for the ILS the grips will break when the gun is fired. So I am trying to find out if anyone has tried fitting grips over the top of the ILS (I will never use it) or if any of the tinkerers here had come up with a way to customize some grips to work without breaking.

i dont see the ils on the exploded view for the 380 but Westerly is it something that can be removed like some smith and wesson owners remove the ils on the new revolvers? if you can remove it you might be able to just cover it with a regular set of grips.

Heyjoe I was kinda trying to get the factory to remove it for me but it didn't really sound like that was something they wanted to do.  I would be happy to just remove it if anybody knows how my knowledge of gunsmithing is pretty limited though (it basically stops at cleaning lol) so I hate to start taking things apart and screw up one of my favorite guns!

Don't want to rain on your parade, but (you knew that was coming, huh...) with CA being so dang weird, will they prosecute you if you disable it or cover it where it can't be used? Like you, I'd never use it, but the Politicians are weird.

check out the video on how to remove the smith and wesson ils and see if their lock is similiar to yours. or maybe you could contact one of the people who has done it and ask them what they think.

...Westy/Heyjoe, I found the ILS on the exploded view dia..However, the parts # list f/the ILS, for some reason was in the owner's manual diagram..the ref. #'s are, 37, 38, 39 & 40..The expoded view showing the ILS, is on the NAA website, whilst the #'s are in the O/Man. W/NO pic..(Go Figure)..ALSO, Call 1-800-821-5783 and speak W/Wayne Martin..He is the Master Gunsmith for all of the GUARDIAN firearms..As for the grips breaking, it's not that You are putting another hole in them, the problem arises from the TYPE of material they are constructed from..As You can see, the grips are secured to the frame with just ONE skinny-ass screw..The recoil shock that is transmitted to that single attachment point, dictates the use of very high strength material...
