NAA MINI QUESTION

One thing that I've found hard to fine:  NAA Mini revolvers, & 22 magnum shells.

I have found a Black Widow magnum for sale.   $303 + $50 shipped.  Here is the dilemma.  I don't necessarily want a magnum.  No mag shells, but I have lots of Lr.   I've read that one can order a Lr cylinder for around $40.  So i could switch out cylinders.   But now I would have a total investment of around $400 + dealer fee of $25.  Ouch!!!  This would be my first mini.  Never even held one.

What do y'all think?   Too much or a bad scenario, or one I should jump on.

Terry you're gonna love that Black Widow. I carry mine every day.
For personal defense, it would be good to have a mag cylinder. You could buy one box of Speer Gold Dot or Hornady 22mags, load up the cylinder, and never shoot it. When you want to practice, swap the 22 cylinder in and shoot cheap 22LR ammo. The swap is quick and easy. You need to do the same thing (remove the cylinder) to reload. A little practice makes it effortless.
NAA is very good at support. Typical turn around times are about 2 weeks. You'll have to send the BW back to them so they can 'time' the new cylinder to your gun. I would consider it important to have the 22mag cylinder.

Terry treefish

It appears the Mini Master is sold.  That's too bad.

The problem with sending it to NAA, to & fro, are the costs.  When I shipped my Guardian 32acp to NAA, $70 there & $30 back home. That would put my total cost at around $500.  I'll calm my OCD and wait.

Terry treefish

Just discovered Gun's International has some appealing deals on NAA Mini's.

Most LGS will ship for you, and even receive it back. Last I knew, mine charged $30 to ship a gun to another LGS, or the manufacturer.

Thanks for the information.

barrytheprof

If you buy it new it may not cost you anything. If not, it will cost about $25 to have an ffl ship it for you, and NAA will most likely pay the return shipping. Call NAA's support line and get the correct info.

Terry, I agree with Barry.
For myself, I've carried a NAA 22mag daily for decades; it's light and just disappears in a pants pocket or under a shirt on the belt. I'm a small guy and concealing a much bigger and heavier gun isn't so easily done, nor are bigger guns as easy on the body when carried and a gun that gets left home because it isn't easily toted does its owner no good.
Also, usually 22LR is much less expensive than mag, so the weekly practice easily pays for the conversion cylinder.  Did I reiterate the key word, practice? PRACTICE.
I own four NAA minis, three of which are 22mags with LR conversion cylinders. I've never regretted their purchase.

My plan now is to purchase a Mini that includes both cylinders with the deal.  At Guns International, there are several.

I have two guns listed in a local paper for sale.  When I sell even one, then I plan to pull the trigger.  After a recent purchase of a Buck Mark,  my wild money needs some additional funds.

Yesterday, I drove 75 miles to a Sporting Goods store, & purchased 800 22lr.  None to be had in this area.   The store had this little revolver that really got my attention.  I've been traumatized ever since.  Ruger Bearcat.  Oh my goodness, it was nice.  They had a holster handy, so I stuck it in the holster, placed it in my front & back pocket,  and stood amazed.   I walked away, but with a heavy heart.  At $550, it would leave me with a much depleted wild money account.   I need a very difficult personal trait, patience.  And then there's the Mini.  Oh my.

Terry--  We warn new guys this is habit forming. Just look at what it is doing to you. 77 posts and you have never even held one and you have the virus!  :)  --- Prices will keep going up. Supplies go down. Even used. All guns are in short supply. Even the Junk gun racks that were always full are empty. Even Cap and ball are in low supply.  With the Demoncrats running things this will just get worse. Do it when you can.

Good advice.  Thanks 😊

While I have never held a Mini, I do own a NAA 32 ACP.  It's pretty tiny too.

Grumpy, yes, I did get the mini virus.  Should have worn a mask 24/7.  I had no idea i had posted 77 times.  That's way way too much.  Need to go fishing.

Well, I pulled the trigger.  From Guns International, I placed an order today.

NAA 22lr with holster.  I think this is the one most people get started with, the lowest cost one, perhaps.  I had a long talk with the seller.  Afterwards I felt really good about it.

$225 + $19 shipping= $244.  Another $25 to the gun shop shipped to.

Happy 😃 happy happy.🎉

Just be glad you don't live in the Demokratik People's Republik of Kalifornia. (DPRK) The cheapest receiving dealer I have found wants $75.
Then the state makes you take a "test" for a handgun ($25 every 5 years I think) then a fee for each gun (Something like $25) & then sales tax (8.75% where I live.) Of course you couldn't even want a Black Widow or a 1 5/8" barrel since they are not on the approved list. You can buy them from a private party that has one legally.

I believe I had read the Magnum  1 5/8" has some "special dispensation" in CA to be purchased. Civil War Reenactors made their case (said it replicated a pocket pistol from the era) and it was approved. (needs checking)

I have not looked that up so... it could be "Hog Wash" but maybe something to look into.

If it were so I would think there would be info here on the Forum.

Rick, I don't live in Kali and will no longer even visit the place. Last time we went, was maybe 5 or 6 yrs ago to see the redwoods. The inn owner said she was wary of letting us stay, seeing as we were from Idaho. I couldn't hardly believe my ears.  Nowhere else to go, so I kept quiet. Effem. Never going back.
The state website lists two NAA products allowed, the shortest barrel mini revolvers in 22LR and 22mag. That's all. If there is a special allowance for any others I couldn't find it.
More bad news: I read Becerra is headed to DC.

All of the revolvers that meet the minimum overall length requirement for exemption for single action revolvers don't have to be on the approved list.  SB 15 EXEMPT HANDGUNS
All curio/relic handguns as defined in Section 178.11 of Title 27 of the Code of Federal
Regulations are exempt from the provisions of SB 15. Also exempt are single-action revolvers
that have at least a five-cartridge capacity with a barrel length of not less than three inches, and
that meet any of the following specifications:
1.    Was originally manufactured prior to1900 and is a curio or relic, as defined in
Section 178.11 of Title 27 of the Code of Federal Regulations;
2.    Has an overall length measured parallel to the barrel of at least seven and onehalf inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled; or
3.     Has an overall length measured parallel to the barrel of at least seven and onehalf inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled and
that is currently approved for importation into the United States pursuant to the
provisions of paragraph (3) of subsection (d) of Section 925 of Title 18 of the
United States Code.
Additionally, Olympic pistols listed in PC section 12132(h)(2) are exempt from the
provisions of SB 15.

The 7 1/2" overall length is a problem for many of the NAA revolvers but an oversized grip might be of some help. The Olympic pistol exemption refers to Olympic pistols with detachable magazines ahead of the trigger.

Note: The Earl with a 4" barrel would be exempt & may be what was being thought of above. The 3" barrel would be too short.

I'm pretty sure those are the "exempt" ones I have heard about. (But check before quoting me!)  :o

Thanks for posting this.  The lack of overall length is what keeps gun shops from ordering other NAA models. And even if the short Mag and short LR are exempt... It is not obvious in the law books so, not worth the fight for them to try to carry them.

Yeap, kali has become a horrendous place to be in. Everything closed down all to have the worst number of cases in the world, homeless everywhere, crime going way up, the highest tax rates in the country, a dictator instead of a governor, and Orwellian laws to put it kindly; can't wait to get the hell out of here. However, I'm now thinking why should we abandon California? We were here much before all the communists started taking over the state, plus it is worth 55 electoral votes. biden could've stolen the states that he grossly stole, plus some, and if President Trump would have carried California he would have still won, so perhaps make California Great Again?

Boisesteve

Tell ya what Gun1, you might be right. But it won't be easy.
(Texted from Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, where all is easy and open and masks are advised, which is night and day different from mandated.  Nothin' eases a body on a winters day like a soak in a hot spring!)

The 1 1/8" LR & mag are not exempt. NAA has paid for them to be tested & put on the approved list. They could do the same for any of their models but apparently feel it is not worth the cost as each has to be done separately. (Adding 1/2" to the barrel makes it a totally new model.) They also have to be periodically reapproved. Since it is almost impossible to get a concealed carry permit in most of the state I can see the problem. Not in my worst nightmare could I make this kind of #$@* up.
