Breaktop shaving lead

Hi. I recently bought a new 4" breaktop magnum, and took it to the range for the first time last Saturday 3-13-21.  Unfortunately, it shaved lead and both myself and the person standing to my right got some shrapnel. The people at NAA were quite nice, and I will be sending it back in to them when I get a shipping label. While it's there, I think I'll purchase the lr cylinder and have it fitted. Anyone else had this problem?

Welcome 2centermass,
I haven't seen the problem mentioned here.
Well, not that I can remember.

Did it do it on every cylinder?
If you are going to send it in,
your smart to get the Lr cylinder.
And no, I haven't had that problem.

Is that a cylinder timing issue?

I agree that if you are sending the Mini back then getting a LR cylinder is a good idea. Just a thought here, but sometimes if the gap between the cylinder and the forcing cone is too wide then the escaping gasses can have such an impact that it feels like solid material is hitting you. I have known of instances of that happening but I have never known of lead actually being shaved off and flying out as shrapnel. That would be some really bad cylinder alignment.

I have a ranger 2. I have shot it 5-6 times since I first got it. The last time I took it out was when I got my new Pug. I put the same ammunition through my pug and the Ranger. The pug handled the ammo with no problems. The ranger not so much. After about 2 and a half cylinders I had to stop shooting it. I was getting what felt like hot pepper specks in my face and arms. It was so bad I just unload it. After getting home I looked over the ranger and noticed really bad burn marks on the outside of the cylinder. I sent it to NAA to have it check out. While it was there I did get a 22lr cylinder for it.  Got it back about 2 weeks later with a business card that I believe said do not shoot varmint load. I did tell them in an email before I sent it in that I was shooting CCI maxi mags.

What is a "varmint load"? Wouldn't that include just about all .22s?

High velocity rounds.

There were lead particle residue on one chamber. The other four were clean.
