Just wondering if my gun may be defective...

About a year ago I bought the NAA mini 22 short. It's a beautiful little guy and then I was determined to become fairly accurate with it. The hammer is very hard to pull and the trigger is very stiff and gritty for lack of a better term. Most women I give this gun to cannot pull the hammer back with their thumb alone. The end up using both hands. And a few have been unable to pull the trigger at all.

I figured that's how the gun was supposed to be and it would break in.  I've fired it for probably about 1000 rounds now. I can hit a bull's-eye at 7 yards with decent consistency now. The hammer and trigger are still very hard to pull and the grit, or clunkiness , id still present, but I've gotten used to it.

Then I tried my friends 22lr mini. The trigger is by no means a hairpull trigger, but it is lighter than mine and very very smooth. My trigger is not smooth. The same goes with her hammer, easier to pull than mine by a little bit but much smoother by a large amount.

Her 22 Long rifle is significantly older than mine but I don't know how many rounds it has through it. After firing mine as much as I have, I doubt it is going to be any more broken in.

I can pull the trigger on my going about 20 times before my fingertips starts feeling a little bit sore. I can do the same on her gun about 50 times. Actually I just gave up then but my finger still was not sore.

So my questions are these: is my gun defective or are the newer ones just so different in general? Is there a significant difference between the 22 short and the 22 Long rifle? do I need to get some accurate trigger pull measurements before I talk to the NAA guys about taking a look at it. Is the variation between guns that much? Is it possible to lighten up and smooth out the action?

I still love my gun, it's one of my favorites. But ever since I fired that 22lr version, I am very much wishing that mine gun's action was the same.

Thanks for the help.

Welcome. Post often and post Pics. We love pics.     Sounds like yours is a little too tight.  With no trigger guard the trigger needs to be tight but not as tight as yours.  Call them with the info you gave us. Service is very good.    As for pics you will need 15 posts before you can post them. Just post a short comment or like and you can get there in no time.  Morning coffee and pics!  Old farts like pics.

Welcome to the insanity !

No, that's not normal for NAA Mini's.

As noted, give NAA Customer Service call - I'm sure they'll be able to help you out.

Several family members are/were NAA owners.  Two had Black Widows.  One of them had a trigger like you describe and the other has a much smoother trigger.  I am not sure why but there is some variation in trigger pull & feel on these baby revolvers.  It can certainly be addressed by NAA if it is a problem.

My 22LR is somewhere in the middle... and I for one approve of that given the lack of a trigger guard.  While I can think of no normal circumstance where a lighter trigger would be a problem I can think of several where a heavier trigger would be a help.

Case in point: When I first got my 22LR mini I showed it to my dad.  He looked it over, extended his arm and pointed it.  Then he pulled the hammer back and aimed.  And the loaded, cocked mini revolver fell out of his hand and tumbled to the ground.  He could not close his big, work hardened hands around it.   It hit the ground hammer first, aiming up and to the right.  The gun did not fire.

Until his passing he was the proud owner of the aformentioned Black Widow with a heavy trigger... largely because he liked the factory grips whereas the LR and Short models didn't have enough grip.

He carried that BW religiously.

Unless a gun is COCKED, a trigger guard is of little use at all.
Nor is a stiff trigger advantageous when carrying a gun uncocked-as the NAAs must be carried.
Send your gun to NAA and have them fix the trigger pull.

Thank all of you for being so nice and helpful.

It's refreshing to find a forum where people don't get yelled at. May because were used to getting crap for tiny revolvers. Most of my friends actually think it's really cool but some of the more guns snobs joke about it being useless. Until I out shoot them with their Glock 17 with my "useless" revolver ( at least for the first five rounds  :-) and point out the fact that mines in my sock while there's is in the glove box.

I will contact them today.

P.S. is it the capture on this form kinda rough? Considering we all have to be registered.

Those who laugh at mini stop after you let them fire her. I shoot the Companion black powder cap&ball. They all look at me funny. Until they shoot her.   Don't know  what you mean by capture but after you are out of probation  (15 posts)  it is all easy.  Try not to drift too much but drift is OK we all do it. If you tell me what capture is you will be one post closer to being off probation.  :)

"guns snobs joke about it being useless" -- you  " point out the fact that mines in my sock while there's is in the glove box."                                              I just remembered this--I have read about Navy Seals and other special forces guys who will carry Mini buried DEEP in there gear as a last resort.  Good enough for me.         We can talk about other strange  (wet) places Mini has been found :o.
