How to stain brass?

OLD and GRUMPY

I have trouble finding my 380 brass in the 9mm MESS at the range.  Have had  380 get mixed in my 9mm reloading and the other way around. I have started using a red permanent marker on the 380  brass. It works but is slow and not bright enough after being fired. I tried rolling them on a red stamp pad but the ink never dried.  Grand kids now own a red stamp pad. I would take any bright color even unicorn pink! I live in a house full of unicorns. Fluorescent green? or any bright color.  Any paint I have found would gum things up if it would even feed.  I am thinking a dip or spray? Something like the bluing used in machine shops?  Does not need to be permanent just dry and not come off easy.  Thanks.

.

Have you tried a SHARPIE ?

I just run a stripe across the face of the case head.

Besides basic black, they're available in a few different colors from a ( $1) Dollar Store.

Online, also:

If you want to color the entire case, cold blue turn brass black in a New York Minute

I am using red Marks a lot. They were out of most sharpies.Need a fat one. Would be better to see if the entire case was covered.  I know it will stick. I have marked reloads with dots to keep track of how many times I loaded them.   Ill try bluing on some junk brass to see what it will look like. I just thought there might be another way.

You'd think more people would pick it up.
When I was breaking in my 32 Guardians at my Forest Service range I had a hard time finding my brass in the sea of 9 and 380. I wanted it to examine for any issues.

A large plastic box to the side the empties fall , this way you get to aim your gun in two different spots .  ;)  Increases your peripheral vision . Really . ;)
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

A very very large box. Guardians mostly throw brass over your head. I found most of it about 4-5 feet behind my left shoulder. Some went to the right. Not having an ejector makes it unpredictable!

Same thing @ my gun club - They must think that their mothers are also members, to pick up after them.
