Hey guys! New to the forum and NAA mini?s. I picked up a Pug a couple of weeks ago and shortly afterwards I got the fever for another. Found The Dude sitting in a case at my local pawn shop that sells new and used guns and bought it home too. The shop was busy, the gun was new and I had the PUG (which is of excellent quality) so I didn?t spend much time looking it over before the guy boxed it up for me to get on my way. Once home I took it out for a good look and found that the cylinder has some machining marks on the rear. Has anyone else seen this happen before? Also, for those with case hardened mini?s, is there a way to bring out the colors from the case hardening process? My example looks like it?s all black from a distance and nothing like the one in the Talo brochure. Thanks for having me as a member!

Welcome. The bug bit you fast. Looks like the marks might be for better grip when reloading in cold or wet conditions? As you will find she is small and fumble fingers come in to play. Practice practice practice. Are the same marks on the other end also? Marks might be after market.

I tend to get bit quick by a lot of things. I believe the marks are from the initial cut band saw from the round stock used to make the cylinder. The cylinder is slightly rounded off where the marks are which leads me to believe that the saw was crowded when the cut first started and the machining that followed just didn?t get the saw marks out.

Cannot say much on the machine markings. Does not look like they should be there. Have never seen anything like that before around here. Asking NAA would not be a problem and highly advised. As for the CCH; nothing you can really do about that. Every case hardening is different simply because of how the process is performed. Anything short of re- colour case hardening it will only destroy the finish.

Would like to see what Provo  says. Looks like a pro job. Must be for better grip on loading. Or if you carry with a empty chamber you can see where you nare at?

I?ve been a gun nut for years but never got into the NAA Mini Revolver. The bad thing for me is, they are cheaper than some knives I have collected in the past and this sickness will continue. Yesterday, I brought the wife a Black Widow home for her birthday.

vjp- Welcome to the forum!
As to the cylinder, I suggest you call NAA and send them a picture of the cylinder. I may be wrong, but I suspect they may want that back.

The Dude is not true CCH, as CCH is a rusting process, and SS cannot be finished in that manner. The first several prototypes were quite good, with vibrant color. Once it went into mass production, the company could not duplicate the small batch sample. It was deemed way too expensive to try do the entire order in small batches, and the result is what we have to live with. As mentioned, there is nothing, to my limited knowledge, that can be done to make it any better. Generally, if you shine a bright light on the metal, the color is there, it just is not vibrant.

Thanks for the information about the finish, I didn?t know it was a stainless steel frame and barrel shroud. I?m happy to have the Dude regardless. I plan on calling NAA about the cylinder only because it has a slight roll in it toward the O.D. where the marks are and I?m worried that it will hamper ignition on that hole. Only problem is, I think they?ll want the whole gun in for the fitting of a new cylinder. Maybe I?ll ask them to install a tritium front sight while it?s there if I have to send it in.

Did you send pictures into NAA? That doesn?t look right.

Whenever I want the finish on some of my guns to look better I wipe on a good coating of CLP and leave it sit all night. Then wipe off all the extra the next day. IMO it makes the finish on blued and parkerized firearms look nicer. I?m not really sure if it will make any difference on that coating or not but I don?t think it would hurt.

Yes, email with pictures sent to NAA, waiting on a reply. Tried CLP already, the finish is what it is.
