New NAA Ranger II owner - with a problem that I hope I fixed.

Greetings all,

I'm a new guy on this forum - but I use the same forum name on a few others.

I just picked up a NAA Ranger II just for the fun of it. It's the 2.5" version with both cylinders.

My first two range sessions went off without a hitch, but after I put a clip/grip on it, it began to have a problem.  It would fire one or two rounds just fine, but after that, the cylinder stop bolt would not lock the cylinder in place. The cylinder would spin freely in either direction.

It would not do this in dry fire (with snap caps), only firing live rounds in either caliber.

After taking the grip apart again, it looked like the Bolt Spring was pressed against the Mainspring and didn't have the freedom of movement needed to function - I traced around where the spring rides against the grip insert, and removed some of the plastic to allow movement. I just tested two cylinders full in my backyard, and so far so good.

Anyone else run into this with the Clip Grip?

Stay safe,
Bob S.

I know this post is very old but I have to get my 15 posts so I would like to reply in case anyone else experiences this.

Hey Messer,

We are the marketer/retailer/wholesaler for the DARK SUN CLIP GRIP. Thanks for purchasing that grip back in May. I would like to apologize for you having to work on that grip. That problem is not extremely common but it is sometimes caused by the cut not being centered when the grip sides were cut apart from each other. This leads to one side being thicker and engaging the aforementioned springs, which can bind the action and prevent firing.

Another case we encountered was literally a thin frame. I do not remember which model it was but the frame was actually physically thinner than the E-series thickness. It was not much but it did make a difference in the contact inside the frame.

Alas, both problems have the same 2 possible solutions.
1) Send it back to us. (We prefer a good experience for you and we will measure it, sand it down, or replace it)

2) Removing material. Some users prefer to take care of the minor (read major here) fitment themselves. It appears for you it was quick and easy to diagnose and you had the technical expertise to take care of it. Method 1 of material removal is to sand down the entire grip to minimize the thickness of the insert. Method 2 is to use a round file to create a V slot that the spring can operate in.

Once again I apologize for the experience you had. If that grip did not meet your satisfaction please send me an email at [email protected] so I can meet those expecttions. If you are happy with your DARK SUN CLIP GRIP and you need another one we finally have our own website now. Darksunclipgrip.com

All Dark Sun clip grips ship free from our website all the time.

Many thanks,
