What are you all using in your 22wmr's? I shoot 22wmr but mainly in rifles and a Ruger Single six so i don't worry much about what I put in them but reading the manual they talk about high pressure varmint ammo so am just curious and looking for some advice. I haven't got one yet, but it is on the way, I want to be ready. Thanks for your advice, Terry

I'm still experimenting and learning. The majority report is that the short-barrel optimized defense rounds are the best (Speer Gold Dots, Hornady Critical Defense, Federal Punch, and Winchester PDX1 Defender), and that makes good sense to me. I also see the benefit of FMJ/TMJ bullets in 22 Mag for defense. I have ruled out the varmint rounds which all seem to have excessively weak penetration from short barrels.

Need to find some Critical Defense. It's what I use in my centerfire handguns but can't seem to find any 22WMR locally.
Guess it's an online search.

Depends on your barrel length, I would search for specific ballistics tests for your barrel length.

I have a 1" pug, very different from a 2" BW.

Here is some info on Pug ballistics:

If it works in a Pug it will work in a longer barrel. :-)

Apparently all the MaxiMag ammo I have shouldn't be shot in my NAAs. Looks like Gnomie's suggestions are the only options. EXCEPT someone on this forum mentioned Winchester Rimfire (aka Remington Special) which is WMR-Lite. Sounds like fun and I found some on Gunbroker. Hoping to try it out this week.

I don't have a lot of Gold Dot so I'll likely burn up LR at the range and save the short-barrel WMR for Mr. Foaming-at-the Mouth Coyote.
