What is the general consensus on the Ranger II? Solid gun or more of a collection piece?

If I remember right, the original had problems with the release lever coming loose when you cocked the revolver. Still an issue?
Just looking for another NAA to pick up and wouldn't mind something a little easier to reload. The Sidewinder just seems a bit on the bulky side and I've always liked break top revolvers.

Also... any insights on where to find one?

I have a Sidewinder and like you think the Ranger?s better looking. Only thing I?ve heard about a Ranger is that when It gets dirty after a few rounds and you break it to reload, the whole cylinder lifts up because of the stuck cases. My Sidewinder does sort of the same thing - the ejector rod won?t eject cases after only a few shots.
Deplorable before deplorable was cool.

A great little gun. Have not had problem with extraction. Sights are useless but not a target pistol you will learn.how to hit a head sized target  consistently at five yards with practice.

You can count on a Ranger to function properly.  There is a video of someone "over reaching" their thumb to hit the break top latch.

Personally, I've sent several hundred rounds down range on all 3 of my Ranger II's and not had a single issue (1 5/8", 2 1/2" and, 4" Barrel)

I have a "break in" routine I use with any new NAA Revolver I get.

#1 Clean and lube the new gun before shooting it
#2 For the first 2 boxes of ammo (25 per box) every 10 or 15 rounds, do a quick wipe to remove soot, this will also lightly re-lube the inside of the cylinder (I use a q-tip)
#3 Be gentle with any NAA revolver while loading, un-loading or, opening/removing the cylinder. If you have to use force you're doing something wrong.

There's one on gunbroker.com  The bid is $115.00 right now  ;)    https://www.gunbroker.com/item/939970228

Haven?t shot mine yet, but did add some Altamont boot grips.

The original Ranger had a release mechanism similar to the original Breaktops. It is very unlikely it would release by cocking. The Ranger II has the release that pulls to the rear. It is possible to open it when cocking the hammer. A little practice shooting, which any new gun needs, and in my feeble opinion, it would not open just by cocking the gun.

If you are still looking, send me a message. I know where there is a 2 1/2? Ranger, brand new, you may be interested.
Guns are a lot like parachutes:
