It pains me to see the wheels already in motion to restrain the Law Abiding Citizens, but it was inevitable in light (or darkness) of the election results and no, this is NOT political and No, this is NOT Directly NAA firearm related if you segregate the numerous Indiana NAA Owners who are Message Board members. But I digress....With a mere 25 days remaining in 2012, a silent bud deadly blow has been dealt to the Indiana gun owners community by way of our fine local governing powers that be.

Effective 1-1-2013 the issuance of Lifetime Permits will no longer be an option for fellow Hoosiers. So, if you don't have your lifetime carry permit already. You have very little time in which to get the process going to secure your lifetime permit before the gauntlet we call Government begins constricting ever further on our gun rights. Take the time to get this done and notify your local Government of your disapproval of this new (snuck under the wire) change to our freedoms.

I am making this sound like you can no longer get a permit after 1-1-2013. Not so, but you will pay a premium (in an effort to "better balance the budget") for just 4 years on a permit. All issued Lifetime permits will be honored if the monies are received before the deadline. You CAN Apply On Line and submit certified laser fingerprints, so you don't even have to jump through all the hoops and over all the hurdles to get your payment in with time to spare. I wouldn't know this my self if not for being involved with the Dispatchers of 911 here in Delaware County. The law makers are REALLY TRYING to keep a cap on this until 1-1-2013, where they will gleefully tell you they are no longer available. Just use your favorite browsers search feature and type in "indiana gun permit" (or insert your state.)

I encourage any and all gun owners, regardless of State of residence who issue permits of ANY kind to check with local officials to see if there are any restrictions due to go on the books when 2013 rings in.

I thought it was too good to last.
Glad the wife and I got ours when they first came available.
Our permits were up for renewal so we got them for a lifetime.  8)

Zip,

My wife and I have our lifetime Indiana gun license.   I have had my renewable permit for around 40 years, but when Indiana came out with the option of the lifetime permit, I got mine, and I was able to talk my wife into getting her life time permit a couple of years ago.
Stopping the issue of the lifetime permits came up a couple of years ago, so out of curiosity, I called the sheriff's department
[talked to someone I knew] and they said that was just a rumor, and the lifetime permits were still being issued.
I was wondering where you got this info from. This is interesting, and sense it came up before and was just a rumor, I'm wondering if it is true this time. I know they stopped the issue of lifetime hunting license in Indiana  a few years ago because the state was losing to much revenue.   It could be there losing to much revenue issuing the lifetime permits, so they are going to stop.
I've tried to research this, and can't find anything on stopping the lifetime license.

This was first brought to my attention by the dispatchers at Delaware County 911. I then called my DNR buddy that I shoot with often and he said that 1-1-13 would end the availability of the lifetime permit. It's not being advertised because of the capitol gain that stands to be made after 1-1-13. It doesn't go ON THE BOOKS until 1-1-13, so you won't find anything on the bill until then. It's been passed through the underbelly of our local government to increase revenue for the 2013 fiscal year (October 12-Sept13), but it will not be in effect until 2013. To verify this on your own, please DO check with your local law enforcement. I know that rumors DO circulate through all businesses, including government entities. I've had my lifetime since entering this state in 1989 after serving in the Navy. With family on the County payroll, I was qualified as a dependent to apply for lifetime and it was granted. I did have to re-apply in 2007 due to a "loss" of records and I paid a second time for my permit. I've retained copies of all of the documentation in the event that the records are lost again, and I encourage those with lifetime permits to go to your local records department and obtain a notarized copy of your permit paperwork in the event your information is lost. I was asked if I had copies when I reapplied and could have avoided the $$$ outlay had I been able to present those documents.

Thanks for your speculation Bud. We all should err on the side of caution when information of this nature is presented with out supporting information. Please do call your local Sheriffs department to check on the validity of this claim. If it's found to be false, I, and I'm sure others, would be greatly interested to hear your Sheriffs offices' side of the story. I am the last person who wants to spread a rumor, which is why I checked more than one source after I found out about the situation, and before I posted about it here. Cheers!!

Zip,

I think I'll wait till after 1-1-2013 before I call to check on it.  Getting your information from your DNR friend would be the best source I can think of for it to be correct! :)

I did make several pink copies for me and my wife, in case we lost ours, or it became worn from carrying it. Also had them all laminated.

Thanks for the heads up!
