Hello, I'm new to the forum. I've never owned an NAA revolver before, but I've been looking at them lately. I live in copperhead country and think that a Black Widow would make an excellent snake gun on walks with the dogs. My buddy came across one at an estate sale that should work. It does have what appears to be a smudge of rust on the cylinder takedown tab and the frame has a sort of mottled look to the finish.

What is the best way to clean-up the finish on these "stainless" pistols. Would some fine steel wool harm anything? Any advice would be appreciated. I'll try to attach a picture if I can figure out how to. Thanks.

Welcome to Wonderland !

I wouldn't use even fine steel wool for your issues with the BW

I've used some Big 45 Frontier metal cleaner  ($6) with perfect results, after first wetting the cleaning pad in oil - it will remove rust w/o effecting the original metal finish, and should also take care of the mottling.

It's available directly from the manufacturer: https://www.big45metalcleaner.com/
Be careful if you follow the masses - Sometimes the M is silent

Snoop,
First, welcome to the forum and for your purchase of your first (of many) minis.

Usually you can do a clean up with some fine penetrsating oil (such as KROIL) and JB bore compoound, both available from Brownells.

If the rust is severe and you think that there may be some in the inner workings of the mini, maybe it be best to contact NAA to see if they can help. Their customer service is excellent.

Now,I have to warn you about the forum members hers, especially Uncle Lee as he likes lots of photos so he can look at them while having his (many) cups of coffee.

He will also advise you to store the mini in shoe boxes as it seems to  make them "multiply".

Hope all goes well with your walks with the dog in snake country. You have a supply of CCI 22 Mag snake shot???  In some areas,it is hard to find.

Thanks for the replies. The BW should be here in a week or so and I'll try the Kroil and JB Bore Paste first as I already have both. One box of ratshot is what I've got for now, but if I need more, I'll start carrying a shotgun. 8)
