Black Widow cylinder pin

Greetings,  it has been a while since following this forum.  I have owned a Black Widow, Mag, for approximately 25 years, purchased new.  Carried nearly every day.

It has the original cylinder pin with a button on the front.  When it was new the pin would sometimes move forward out of the detent when firing (a well known problem).  I sent it back to NAA and they drilled the detent dimple in the barrel a little deeper.  It has never malfunctioned since then.

At some point NAA changed the design to the current pin with a notch in the barrel.

Is the current design truly better?  I have had zero malfunctions of the pin in 25 years.

How easy and quick is the new design to operate?  If I understand correctly it requires pulling out the pin latch and turning it 90? to remove and install the pin.  I find the original pin intuitive and fast to operate.

Would it be recommended that I return my BW to be retrofitted with the current pin?

It's too bad that our friends cant be here with us today

I like the current pin, but I agree with Heyjoe. No sense in messing with what works.

Dang, I feel lucky. I've been able to fill my Want List. Even been able to pick up a couple of Why The Heck Did I Buy This items. I think I have all the single action revolvers I'll ever need. Well, maybe just one more Bearcat. And maybe another Pocket Remington with a conversion cylinder. THEN I'll be happy.

I have a Stainless Bearcat on the way. I probably over paid for it, but I really wanted it. I had a Blued Bearcat a couple years ago that I sold. I regretted selling it the same day. The only gun I ever regretted selling by the way. I thought I could fill the hole with a 4 inch Earl. But that didn't work. So I sold the 4 inch Earl and replaced it with a 3 inch Earl. Still not satisfied. So, I now have a new stainless Bearcat on the way. I have a feeling the 3 inch Earl will head down the road soon, but I'm not sure yet.

I could go a little berserk and add a Shopkeeper and an adjustable sight version, but I really don't want them. Both have minor issues, and I don't like the looks so much. One of the custom distributors had a six inch, and a high polish blue with a fluted cylinder. They didn't trip my trigger either.

All I want is better sets of black micarta. The set in the photo could fit better. I found them on eBay several years ago, and none since. Hogue used to make black and white micarta for Bearcats, but that was before I got my cats. I'd settle for black polymer, but those are zero. There's lots of white polymer.... :(

Have you checked the Altamont site? Lots of options for Bearcat grips, including pearl grips for stainless ones.

Not sure you can overpay for a gun you really desire. Bearcats seem to have their own little niche. I'm pretty tickled about lucking into a stainless one.

If you ever decide that 3" Earl (my personal favorite) isn't making you happy, me and you oughta talk. I've shot the 3", 4", and 6", and while I carry a 4", the 3" is my favorite for blasting at the range. I always have room for another Earl.

Even though i am a long time member I seem to be on probation, maybe because it has been a number of years since last posting.  So my apologies if it takes a few days for my replys to show up.

I like the original pin and want to keep it.  I want to make sure there is not some feature about the new pins that would make it worth converting to.

If it ain't broke, son, don't fix it.

You will come out of probation with post #15.

Now you are getting the drift.
If someone is willing to post and then answer it 6 or 7 times, likely they are not a spammer.
They normally come in, make a stupid post or two then go away.

Well.....I am very capable of making a stupid post.  But I am not a spammer (except working toward my 15 posts!!) and I will try real hard to avoid too much of the stupid!

A blessed holiday to all.

Five more to go... ;D

I just passed 4000, mostly stupid.... ::)

A bit of a long time to reply but...OV, I could steal my own thread too.  Might I hazard a guess that you flew OV-10s?  Viet Nam possibly?  If so you surely have some exciting stories to tell.

bearcatter

Four more to go. Just ask youself a question twice, and answer both of them..... ;D

OV loved his airplanes. When he went AWOL from this forum for a while, I found a post he'd made on an OV-1D forum. We searched high and low for him, and were glad he reappeared. He just had some technical difficulty.

Craigt - I agree with everyone else: if the BW works good do not try to fix it. But you should definitely get a newer model NAA just it case. Tell us about your revolver experiences and dreams to get your post count to 15.

You know Bearcatter that super sluth Unc_Lee found me posting on that Facebook messenger (which I hate these social programs) . I was being forced to answer a friend who contacted me and with looking around I found this Grumman site and added some stories . NOW Unc_Lee that Kentuchy Blue Nose hound dog found that post of all things an inquired if that was me so I can't tell a lie and conceded it was me . He had tears in his eyes  :'( :'( wanting me back so I said all right , Ha ,Ha .
Honestly I've been real busy with home stuff things that keep increasing in numbers I just fell off the forum screen trying to get back to some kind of normal . Almost there just kids and grandkids stuff to settle. Then its back to the fun and games of the forum . Thanks Unc for waking me up .  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

P.S. You can run but you can't hide from Unc_Lee our own Shurlock Holmes (AKA) Kentuckey Blue Nose Hound , what a guy ,thanks again Unc for bringing me back home . ;) ;)

It was me that found you on that OV-1D forum, and your actual name elsewhere. Should we call you A.W.? I didn't post it in case you prefer being incognito. We're just glad that no matter who did what, you're back....... ;D

Yep - I, too, have an early BW, and have had zero issues with any portion of the gun.
