I really dig the Colt Single Shot Derringer with side swinging barrel in 22 caliber.

I would be the first in line if NAA made a modern version.

What about you?

bill_deshivs

Those things were made out of die cast zinc. Butler made them for Colt.
They are larger than a mini revolver.

Single shot ??????  I would rather have a sharp pencil .They are a novelty for sure but not too practical in a situation , good for collecting though all polished up ..   ;)
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

Correct.
And I would love to have one made in stainless steel by NAA in .22 LR.

I would buy a stainless steel version from NAA in a heartbeat. In the mean time I am looking for one made by anyone, but in good condition.

Yours looks pretty sharp @armybrat! Totally jealous.

I have a pair of Butlers. Got them for Christmas when I was 21 years old.
Some of the Butlers didn't even have a steel insert in the barrel. The first time you shoot them, it strips the rifling out.

MR_22

Plenty of my guns aren't practical. Sometimes that doesn't matter. Gun collecting is a valid reason for impracticality.  ;D

Great for snake shot then.  ;D

I suppose practical could be a relative term. Not only do I find them esthetically appealling, I could find a practical application. A lazy sunny afternoon sippin on a cool glass of sweet tea on my back patio just doin' a little plinking. No hurry, just one shot at a time. Easy livin'.

One "issue" I have with my mini, after just one cylinder and the whole thing starts to heat up. After 3 or 4 cylinders, she's gettin' kinda hot. A single shot wouldn't heat up as fast.

I'd be in. I discovered that the modern reproductions weren't intended to be fired--they were just cute non-firing novelties. I'd enjoy having a shooter.

Ozark75

So, NAA @jessica jarvis, when can we expect a single shot derringer?!?!?

bill_deshivs

Those are chambered in .22 short only.

That sure is purty!  With the way the light is reflecting off the frame, on my screen it looks like brass.  I would love one with a polished brass frame and that dark blue barrel.

bill_deshivs

That frame is gold plated. The guns were offered in nickel plate also.
Aesthetically, the guns are cool.

There was a guy on youtube many years ago (busyhands94) who took one of the black powder models and made a single shot .22 LR conversion for it. I don't see why NAA couldn't take the frame of the current design and simply rework the internals so there's no need for the hand or hand slot.

The issue is the cost, it wouldn't be a cheap piece and with Bond Arms and their slimmer, Aluminum frame Stinger those will be more worth the money and very difficult to compete with. You get two shots and the Bond spur trigger is a pretty good spur trigger, certainly better than the NAA given the better ergonomics.

I've been pretty critical of the Bond derringers for a while, but they really improved things going the smaller, lighter, less polished route with the Stinger and Stinger RS.

I had a Colt/Butler, carried it for years as my church gun. It was easy to carry and easy to be accurate with. I wore it out. I would certainly join in on the purchase of a replica in the same size in a sturdy material.

I would go for a pair with consecutive serial numbers.

How about a Stevens Tip Up? From the company that invented the 22 long rifle cartridge.

I came very close to buying one of those with either a 5 or 6 inch barrel. Couldn't guarantee that it was a Stevens though as there was no makers mark on it, just a serial number. It wasn't in primo shape but was in decent condition with most of the bluing intact. Being unsure if it was a knockoff I passed on it.

I would take one for sure. Not interested in the longer barrel though. They are very difficult to find in good shape. Plus, hard to tell if they are authentic.

I do like the colt as I mentioned in my original post, but I could get down with any style single shot 22 pistol. I just really need NAA to make one.

5_shooter

It should say jstevens on the top of the barrel. Serial # right below on the left side of barrel. On most of them the inside of the barrels are usually badly pitted. That is the case with both of mine.

The one I found for sale didn't have the J Stevens roll stamp. May have been a replacement barrel on it that was 5 or 6 inches long. The rest was in decent shape though. Good shape and priced to sell. Took a pass on it though.

See, you are doing it wrong. Get 3 minis. You shot while your wife loads #2, while you shoot #2, she loads #3, and #1 cools a bit?
