New .32 Guardian. light primer strikes. Sometimes, pulling the trigger a second time fires the round. Happened with 2 different brands of Ammo. PPU and Fiocchi. Considering replacing the hammer spring. This guardian .32 out of the box seemed to have a lighter trigger pull than the one it replaced. Any Vet Guardian owners have thoughts?

I would guess you are correct that a spring may be too light.

Perhaps think about sending it back to NAA for a "going over"?

Some other members call me the Guardian Grand Poobah. I don't know about that, but I'll cover everything I can think of.

So this is a replacement gun from NAA? What happened with the first one? They normally give replacements an extra once over, and I understand every Guardian gets 5 rounds before shipping.

First, was it clean and lubed? Mine were shipped barely dirty, but so far as I could tell they were dry.

Guardians have a rep for needing a break-in.100 rounds made a difference in mine, smoothing and lowering the trigger pull. Even ejected farther. They run flawless now, except the occasional last round stove pipe caused by the design.

It could be a weak hammer spring, but IMHO the average (it varies) 10 pound factory pull is excessive to start with. Some people lower it to around 7 with no issue. I don't have a trigger gauge, but I know mine noticeably dropped with the break-in.

You could check the firing pin for free movement and a smooth round tip. Field stripped, a 1/8 inch punch will move it without letting the retainer slip out of place. It is a PITA to put back. I've read one claim of the retainer installed backwards. The rounded side faces out!

If most rounds show good strikes after one hit, the firing pin is okay, and it's under 100 rounds, I'd just run some more ammo and trust it to fix itself.

Yes. Cleaned and lubed. Firing pin retainer installed correctly. firing pin moves freely with a punch. Primer impacts are shallow as well. Trigger on this pistol substantially lighter than my previous Guardian. My trigger gauge only goes up to 7 pounds.  But lighter than 10 for sure. Ordered a hammer spring from NAA. Not sure how much a draw bar spring impacts trigger pull. Kind of wish I ordered one of those as well. The spring should arrive this week. see what happens.

have you tried it on other ammo? some ammunition have hard primers

Fiocchi has a rep for harder primers (as does Sellier & Bellot). But chieft 123 also ran PPU (Prvi Partizan) which is my favorite when I can get it. Kinda cool that it's Serbian just like my Zastavas. They were probably designed and test fired with it. I reserve it for them. The Guardians get Aguila and PMC. They are the easiest to find .32 ACP.

New hammer spring arrived from NAA. Could tell immediately upon installation trigger was heavier. Shot a mixed bag of ammo through it. Everything fired. No light strikes.  Easy fix once I had the part in hand. Thanks for taking time to reply all!

Glad to hear you're good to go.

I'm really surprised it was the mainspring. Maybe it looked okay, but somehow wasn't heat treated correctly. In that case it would have probably gotten even weaker over a short time. NAA may see more like yours, since the springs would be treated in batches.

That makes sense. Could tell immediately after replacing the spring. The trigger pull was heavier.
