Researched it for a week before I ever touched one, today and I bought it. I'm not wild about plastic guns, but this is well designed, Ruger has made it for 12 years. Should be some good .22 fun. Extra mags and leather on the way.

I played with one for a few months, not a bad little plinker. My buddy wanted it more than me.

My daughter looked around for a 22 pistol and liked the feel of the SR22. She found a purple one and couldn't do without it... sealed the deal. I have shot it and it shoots well enough but the safety was backwards for my taste. It is her walk about gun and she gets a lot of practice with it.

Yeah, you have to remember the safety. Some other pistols are like that. I like the exposed hammer, and no safety blade in the steel trigger. The S&W .22 Compact is striker fired with a trigger blade, so Ruger was the "winner".

The only mod I see is a Tandemkross SS guide rod with the recoil spring captive. Said to make reassembly easier. I ordered that.

Ordered a Fobus holster too. I like them, and it's been a while since I had a gun Fobus makes for. They're poly like Tupperware, not Kydex. Made in Israel. They make paddle versions, but I like the belt style. Never cared for paddles.

It was a toss up about 5 years ago between the S&W .22 compact and the SR 22. I went with the S&W .22 compact. Was thinking I'd get the SR 22 later but haven't yet.

bearcatter

The S&W was my first runner up, because it has an internal hammer and a hinged trigger safety. Good gun, but I like my hammer and solid trigger. Brother has their M&P Shield 9mm and likes it.

Bearcatter, You gonna get a chance to shoot it anytime soon?

I got four inches of ice and snow Monday, still have two inches left. 14 degrees last night, twenties today. Way below our normal 40s for this time of year. It may be a while. So far the forecast is back to usual next week.

One thing I love about retirement, I don't have to go out when it's bad.

I hope sometime in the next few weeks my brother and I can match up and go. He's got some rifle loads to test.

I've practiced field stripping it, and cycled some dummy rounds. I've looked at every inch, not even a scratch. Ruger used to to set handgun sights at the factory, I'll see if they still do!

I'm with you on the retirement. We having some colder weather than normal here also. 13 degrees last night but we did get to 43 a while ago.

Rick_Jorgenson

I know a couple people that have the SR22 and they like it and neither of them has reported any failures.

I haven't shot one yet but always open to trying it out.

Like camo, I saw a S&W .22c for "to good of a price to pass up" and it had a threaded barrel.

I'm very happy with the S&W choice so far. It has somewhere near 1500 rounds through it (1/2 of them w/suppressor) and taught quite a few people to shoot with it.

It hasn't failed once. I'm sure the Ruger will be the same for you.

The weather in Anthem AZ has been "cool" with 45f at night and only 63f during the day.

I'm wearing a Carhart Hoody and 2 pairs of socks when I go out  :o

Thanks for the info. The S&W was good besides the trigger and hammer. I did forget my SR had one flaw in a thorough inspection inside and out. A rear corner of the slide had a tiny chip in the finish. Wow. A dot of Aluminum Black did that good.

What would you wear at 16 degrees? Four hoodies and electric hunting socks? ...  ;D

I never wear long sleeve shirts or undershirts. At 50 I need a windbreaker. Under 40 I need a coat. Under 30 I try to stay in.

lol!!
Last January I signed up for a concealed carry class with Jeff Gonzales from Trident Concepts. The second morning was 29f degrees at 8:00am and only warmed up to 50 degrees in the afternoon. I wore thermo underwear, long sleeve t-shirt, Carhart hoodie, Carhart coat, boots w/2 pair of socks, gloves, wild rag (cowboy scarf) and a sock hat and that is still the coldest I have ever been!  :o

It was a "conceal carry class" so we would have been wearing long shirts, hoodies and/or coats anyway to train on how to "defeat cover garments" while drawing. We ended up wearing everything all at the same time.  :o  (under 50 I try to stay in!) lol!!

One of the drills was timed shots from concealment. 4 shots, within a 4 inch circle, at 4 yards, you have 4 seconds from an IWB Holster under all that cover. It was a challenge. After running the drill several times I could make all 4 shots in time but the last shot was 1" outside the 4" circle. And I was freezing to death! lol!!  :(

Coldest I've been is 11 below, during a short stay in Yakima WA. It was strange, being a "dry" cold. I walked six blocks to a grocery store in just jeans, a flannel shirt, sweatshirt, Army field jacket, and a knit cap. No thermals, no heavy socks. I don't think I had gloves. I was comfortable.

Coldest here in Virginia was minus four, and that was years ago. Anywhere below 15 is pretty rare.

I can picture poor Rick bundled up so much he can barely move at 29*. ..  ;D ...How do you find an IWB under all of that? I would have carried in an outer pocket.

It does not snow here in the SE of TN but yet we have snow and ice for the last several days. We do not like it!

Nice Ruger ................. we prefer the Mk Series. If yours is built anywhere near as well you will have no problems with it.

I had a Standard years ago, and I've had a 5.5 inch bull barrel Mark III with an LCI plug, removed mag safety, and Volquartsen trigger.

Somehow they just didn't trip my trigger at the range. I never had any problem cleaning them, either. ..  8)

Bearcatter, you didn't get another SR 22 did you?

bearcatter

I sure did yesterday, Sunday. Bought the first one the Sunday before. The clerk snickered and asked if I'd be back next Sunday. ... ;D

My Sportsman's Warehouse gets one at a time, so my first one was the only one they had. I got an "In Stock" email Saturday. I didn't go, 21 degrees, windchill was 6. I trusted no one coming out in it. Sunday was a calm 28, and I was there when they opened!

I have multiples of other guns (see my signature) just because I like them. Dumb, that's just me. I also have a good parts stash.

The SR is a little different. It has a decocker safety, mag safety, and ambidextrous controls. Being  polymer, it has a separate chassis inside the frame. I don't think I'd dare attempt to work on it. If I have a problem, I'll let Ruger fix it, and shoot the backup.

I can't say much, when I bought my M&P .22 compact and got home with it, my wife liked it, so I went right back and got another one. 40 miles one way. Maybe your weather will ease up and you can get out and shoot some soon.

Sportsman's is only three miles for me, but 6 windchill I waited and trusted the forecast. I don't want any gun that badly!

Hit 42 today, rest of the week works up to 58 by Saturday but rain every day. Arrgggh! It will probably be a few weeks before I shoot.

One thing has amazed me. The sights on the two guns are set exactly the same. I used a caliper, straight edge, and an engineers scale to check. Assuming both shoot straight with the bore, the second gun's target hits will be on top of the first. They are sighted slightly high and I'm guessing about 15-20 yards.

I remember years ago hearing that Ruger sighted guns at the factory, it was even stated in some owner's manuals. I know my two fixed-sight Bearcats shoot the same, so maybe so.

Here's my Red Ruger SR22. It's the Talo special edition, which I have gaudified with red anodized aluminum accessories.

I also have matching gaudified versions of a Red Ruger MK IV and a Red Ruger Charger-10/22 SBR. I'm currently working on building a matching Red Ruger AR-556.

  I'm not sure Mr_22 that I want to see you in a matching cape and super hero outfit .   :) :) :) :) :)

Why do I customize my "Red Rugers" this way? Because I can. ;D ;D ;D And I like it.

OK, I just finished up my fourth Red Ruger build, this one being a Ruger AR-556. I am extremely happy with how it came out.

I had a local gunsmith at R&R Tactical help with fitting a few of the parts, which needed some slight modifications to fit well. Ryan at R&R does an excellent job! This is the third gunsmithing job I've had him do for me.
