I have to say these are a lot of fun to shoot. I did cheat and got conversion cylinders for both, so they are much easier to clean, plus I only reload .45 LC and .38/.357. The Colt copy is one of the best feeling shooters I've ever had.

Beautiful guns Gnigma , they even look like great shooters . Wow .  ;)
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

.

I had a matching stainless .45 Colt conversion cylinder for my stainless Ruger Old Army .45.

It was "OK", but the cylinder's manufacturer recommended shooting loads that were no stronger than "Cowboy" factory loads.

Eventually, a friend wanted it more than I did, so I sent the whole bundle walkabout to him.

Of course, the fitted presentation case I made for it that went with it made it doubly desirable to him....  ;)

OLD and GRUMPY

The new Kirst converters for the Ruger Old Army are ratted for modern standard pressure 45 Colt. Just not +P. Ruger built the ROA the same as the Blackhawk. Just got one. Will let you know how it works. https://kirstkonverter.com/ruger-old-army.html

I've heard of people using standard loads in conversion cylinders, without problems. I wouldn't worry about it much in a Ruger Old Army. In the Italian/Spanish copies, I'd worry more about the stress on the rest of the revolver than the cylinder itself. Mine are both Pietta copies, and a lot of fun to shoot, even though I only load the light loads. It seems to me the actual pressures of different loads are hard to find. Also, the range of pressures offered is pretty wide for the .45 LC--- from about 17,000 for the cowboy loads to 23.000 lbs for +P. That's nearly a 70% increase. I wouldn't shoot +P in a converted BP gun with somebody ELSE'S hand! (Though I expect the ROA can handle it.)

those + P 45 LC loads are only safe for the gun and your hands in guns like the Ruger, redhawk, blackhawk and old Vaquero. Even the new model  Vaquero cant handle those loads.

Wait, the original Vaquero can handle loads that the New Vaquero can't? Wow, I didn't know that. That's crazy.

I've been using both a Vaquero and a New Vaquero in my Cowboy Fast Draw competitions and there is certainly a difference in weight and size, but I didn't know it was that significant. For me, though, since we only shoot wax bullets in fast-draw shooting, so it doesn't matter. But that's good to know!

HeyJoe my friend what do you consider a new Vaquero . Heck mine must be at least 25 years plus . I assume its the old style but this issue is new to me . Thanks for that great information . Its postings like this that keeps us coming back to NAA for all sorts of reasons even the ones that are being taken away ..................................................................Hunter these are the people that support yours and every other owner business better listen to the wise I'd hate to lose our lifetime guarantees for going out of business purposes . Remember that niche market I mentioned . For that little effort or a lot its worth the gamble to keeps things floating as they were , WHY mess with something thats working , it defies the imagine people want to change systems that work . I see a heck of a lot of businesses change over the years here in Florida and ever never made things better by changes , just monies spent too no avail and most close within years if not sooner but those changes sounded like good ideas , NOT !!! Step lightly Hunter on any changes especially for the cheap prices paid for the old .

The new Vaquero came out in 2005 and is smaller, lighter, a less beefy frame and thinner cylinder walls than the original ruger vaquero. it is closer to the size of the colt than the origial Vaquero.

How is this one for a .45 Colt conversion? Started out chambered for only .45 acp ...................... but with a little gunsmith talent it now chambers both .45 acp with moon clips and .45 Colt.  ;)

Why thank you Sir. We will have to wait and see how things go around here before we give up though.
