I've always been a big fan of the venerable 22LR and the 22WMR. I appreciate the accuracy, the economical price of ammo and the lack of recoil these calibers provide.
That being said their are other calibers worth giving praise and attention. I have my favorites as do you.
I've never given much attention to the most popular, (9mm and .223) only because they didn't fit my interests.
Besides the rimfires mentioned above my other favorite calibers are the .45 Long Colt, 30/30 Winchester and the 45/70 Gov't. I also once had a fine Ruger #1 in 6mm Rem that I wish I never let go only because of it's terrific pin point accuracy at 100 yds.
What are your favorites?
you may not need it but you should have it

.22LR is my all-time favorite caliber, hence my avatar and board name. Even so, some of my other favorites are 9mm, .40S&W, .357-Sig, .22TCM, .22TCM9R, .32NAA, .25NAA, 8mm Mauser, 7.62x25, 5.56x45, .45-Colt, .454-Casull, and probably a few more that I'm forgetting.

22 LR bird shot is one. I never fire it but everyone should have a box in there survival kit to take small critters to eat.

If we had to pin it down ................ we would have to say 9mm. Great out of handguns, really great out of smg's and if using 147 grains it is excellent out of suppressed guns.  8)

5.7x28mm. Soft recoil like a 22 mag, but is centerfire.  Downside is the high cost of ammo.

I won't carry a laser device... unless it has stun, kill, and disintegrate settings.

Yep, OAG, I keep my 22lr mini loaded with CCI bird shot/snake load in my tackle box when I venture out to the local lakes. Yes, I've killed a snake or two when trying to pull in a larger mouth bass!

During the summer, I carry with 3 regular rounds and 2 shot shells. That keeps me ready for the rattlesnakes.

22 mag, and yes I have some snake shot.

I agree on .32 Long and wish I-Frames were still in production.

.44 Special is also nice with its big, easy-to-see holes in targets.
